Hi All,

Wondering if you can help.

I noticed today that my guinea has a very sore eye, which has a blue colouring.

From reading posts i am hoping it is an infection.

The range of options seems to be:

a hay poke, scratching of the eye
nuclear sclerosis
glaucoma

I am planning on taking the pig to the vet tomorrow for an assessment.

Any ideas of what it is likely to be? Can I do anything now, like wash the eye with a ear bud and boiled (but cooled) water?

I have attached some pics, one of the eye closed and one trying to see if there was anything in the eye.

new to this forum so hopefully the photos link works.

Thanks,
Colin

Thanks,

If it has appeared suddenly on top of the eye, please see a vet promptly. it sounds like an ulcerating eye injury, which can develop very quickly; thankfully, with prompt treatment, it also tends to heal fairly straight forward in most cases.

The other two issues happen inside the eye and don't come up quite as suddenly as that.

As we have members from all over the world, you can help us a lot by adding your country, state/province or UK county to your details, so we can tailor any advice to what it available and possible where you are. Please click on your username on the top bar, then go to personal details and scroll down to location. Thank you!

We have got a recommended UK vet locator on the top bar, but any general vet should be able to diagnose an eye ulcer.
For recommended piggy savvy vets in other countries, please see the Guinea Lynx list: Veterinarians - The GLX-Files

Thank, sorry i am based in Guildford, Surrey, Uk.

We will be taking him to a vet tomorrow.

Thanks for your advice.
