Every clean out, seems to tell me, that Hovis is far better at keeping his bed clean than the girls.. They on the other hand are messy! Anyone else noticed this with theirs?

It varies - a lot depends on where your piggies are from. If they are from a mass-breeding place or from a neglect situation, then there is not much chance of piggies learning toiletting habits as it is filthy everywhere.
Like with humans, the range can go from piggies who will only poo and pee outside their hut to groups choosing a peeing corner unless they lose bladder control during their sleep to totally scatty piggies with no concept of cleanliness altogether. That is not gender related.

That makes me wonder about Hovis, as he was a rescue piggy, with history, the only part I know is he had holes in his back from being bitten. Whether rabbit or another male piggy I don't know, but he is immaculate when it comes to toilet behaviour. Rolo was also a rescue, where as two of mine were directly from a a breeder, and none are partial as to where they pee.. Tilly is the worst.

I have 5 boys, the trio tend to wee in their hay tray, and their litter tray - the other two just go wherever the feeling takes them. I don't think it's down to what sex they are, just personalities, and what their cage-mates do.

Yes, same here!
When the boars lived on their own I never had a wet bed.
Now they both live with the sows they must despair about all the pee and poo their girls leave everywhere!

My neutered boy (not yet in with the girls, one more week....) is immaculate where he pees / poos, I can muck him out completely with a single scoop each time. The girls on the other hand have no such manners, he's not going to be amused when he finally gets to go in with them!

I have the opposite issue, my boy Iggy is a filthy pig compared to his wives! He's the only pig I have that will poo on you immediately and constantly when you have him out for a cuddle and then he'll pee on you for good measure. He'll also eat poos and then lick your face :))

The girls however never pee or poo while you have them out. No poopy kisses either, just clean ones. None of them are properly litter trained in the cage though.

He might have other things on his mind when he gets to go in with the girlies  x
