Hi,

So a few days ago one of my boys was acting a bit strange. He's usually a bit naughty and extremely vocal and he just wasn't himself so I picked him up and he seemed to have a tender tummy. I watched him over the evening and night and in the morning called the vets.

The vet couldn't feel any blockages, his bladder was empty but he was walking a bit oddly.. So she said she thought he may have pulled a muscle and gave him an anti-inflammatory injection.

I also bought some xeno 50 so I could make sure it wasn't a mite or lice thing.

He perked up a bit once I put the xeno on, he's now walking better, is appearing a little more but is definitely withdrawn compared to his usual self.. in addition to this, he used to respond to his name and the kissing sound. now, nothing. He doesn't respond to the fridge opening anymore, or the back door (which usually means grass) and only comes to the cage side if he sees me...

I need advice, i'm not convinced the vet was right about a pulled muscle because he's still acting weird.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Liscia (also, Monty would probably love to feel better too)

Hi and welcome!

Could you please help us by giving us a bit more background information. How old is your boy? Was the vet a general vet? is he eating normally and is his weight stable?

You can test the hearing if you clap your hands behind his back and see whether he is reacting. make sure that he cannot see your hands. It may just be him feeling off, not deafness.

As we have got members from all over the world, we find it very helpful if you please added your country, state or (for the UK) your county to your details, so we can always tailor any advice and recommendations to what is possible and available where you are. Click on your username on the top bar, then go to personal details and scroll down to location.

I am tagging our medical specialists for you: @Pebble @Elwickcavies @Abi_nurse

Hi,

Sorry, completely new to forums!

He is around 6 months.. and yes, she was a general vet. I was so worried about him that I thought any vet was better than my own worrying..! He is eating normally yes, I don't think he's drinking as much though and is lying down a lot more.

I clapped yesterday to test him, and he couldn't see my hands but didn't react anyway. He's usually a bit of a daredevil, the hoover is like a play thing and there's a big wide world to scarper off in to beyond the living room. He's not scared of anything!

Thank you for tagging

We have got a piggy savvy UK vet locator on the top bar, but perhaps one of our experts can give you further recommendations.

Yeah, I just had a look at it. Unfortunately I can't drive and the nearest one on the map is 20 miles away... Which is a bit of an issue, but might book him in when my partner isn't at work so we can get a ride up there haha.

again, thank you! I just posted pics of my boys in the breeds message
