lisa the ivermectin is ok mine is the 1% too, people say its not licenced in preg sows but i know a lot of rescues DO use it in pregnancy and in small guineas I myself included.Have alook on the peter gurney or guinea lynex it does say its save to use in preg sows, so its also ok to use in feeding mums and babies in smaller doses.
Everyone's opinions are different about ivermectin i have never had any problems using it in baby guineas with bad mites, or feeding mums or preg mums , the injectable dose is 0.15/0.2ml if you were to inject it.
 
Update on mum & advice needed,

she's lost 15g since coming here. She's 535g now and i'm a bit worried.

I have to say for 2 days she was finding it really difficult to eat with her sore scabby mouth you could see her struggling but now she's eating LOADS - today she's really turned a corer appetite wise. And she's a trojan feeder - seriously she doesn't stop - her milk is now flowing hugely and she feeds for hours and hours.

Do you think she needs the vet? In herself she's great - best day so far. Her mouth is much improved and although she's losing loads of hair it's because the scabs are coming away. The only thing concerning me is the weight loss.

I have done ivomec today and will bath again in a couple of days.

Thoughts?
 
A small weight loss is normal in nursing sows - hers has probably to do with the increased milk flow. With a nursing mum, everything is gowing towards the milk bar. You can only really start to build her up once the pups have stopped.

Sending the poor girl my love and hope that she will prosper with increasing good health and good food going towards her own body soon!

Whee all wish that she continues to improve in the eating (daktarin is wonderful for mouth sores!) and this will in turn within a couple of days let her gain weight, i'm happy to see you are weighing her daily, that gives a true sign of what's happening!
Yeah if you're at all concerned your vet sounds great, take her and the mini's for a check up :)

Lisa, have you dosed with Panacur at all? An intensive course of Panacur *might* be an option if the weight loss continues, as you say she is eating well but not gaining or maintaining weight and, to me, given her condition, I would seriously be considering an intensive (10 day) course of Panacur to treat for an active case of internal parasites.

However, like I said before I am unsure about medicating pregnant/nursing mums so I do believe it's important to check with someone else, but I wanted to pass the idea on because ordinarily, it may be a viable option and it is one I would be considering at this stage.

Just to say she's putting weight on at last. YIPPEEE. Her mouth sores are gone and although she's bald all there it does mean she can eat freely and boy isn't she! She eats and wheeks for fresh food NON STOP!

She's started fleeing from loud noises rather than just sitting there resigned and overall I'm pleased with her progress.

I have given Ivomec and I did it orally not behind the ears and today she gets a fungal dip. She's virtually stopped scratching.

I did her meds and stuff last night and I felt some improvement in the sores. I'm really pleased!

I have to say her babies are the most forward little ones I have ever seen. They are SO forward, they really tiny but they eat everything and despite their size they seem amazing.
