My two guineas, Rusty and Percy seem to be malting there hair , sort of exactly like what dogs do! not hair loss and not so much that you can tell or see there skin , but I dont know why!

My mum recently took care of them while me and my partner went away for a few days and she thinks they might have a vitamin c definicency , but i give them fresh hay, water ,pellets and carrots, cabbage , cucumber most days and they tend to eat alot of grass to when they are in the run also.

I dont have any vitamin drops etc for them so wondering if thats what it might be, I just thought they malted from the heat as it is 'summer'!

Help please! :) Thanks!

I am not sure if hair shedding is a sign on vitamin c deficency, but so long as they are eating their pellets which hopefully should contain vit c anyway, and they are getting lots of veggies natuarlly rich in vit c they should be ok.... what pellets do you feed them?

Do you feed them veggies other than what you listed?

Is their skin dry or flakey atall, or does it look pink anywhere? It could be a skin condition..... what are they bedded on?

Welcome to the forum xx

Some piggies can shed hair occasionally, especially if it is evenly and there are no bald spots.

Here is a link about hair loss; it is worth checking out all other possibilities first. http://www.guinealynx.info/hairloss.html

Yes sorry, i did mean to say it is normal for them to malt, so long as the hair isn't coming out in clumps and there is no bald patches or thinning in certain places.

I feed them the excel pellets with the oregano in aswell i cant remember the name probably as I'm inside and its in the shed but its definitely excel pellets !

Theyve always had them from since they were born so ive carried it on with them and they like them!,

all the veggies i feed them have been : carrots,- regular , cucumber- regular, broccoli- around two three times a week, cabbage- two three times a week, they dont like tomatoes as ive tried them , there not fond of apples very much either!, they tried melon the other day which they liked so will have to give them more often! thats about it for all the veggies, aswell as grass they eat from garden and dandelion leaves!

nope not dry or flaky any where at all, they have wood shavings , and hay but ive recently been told they shouldnt sleep on hay? but i posted on here about it and a user replied and said there guineas sleep on hay and are fine with it too ! mine have no problems with it! There hairs just seems to loosily malt !

thank you!

i had a look on that sign earlier too !

no clumps or bald spots ! just want to make sure I'm giving them all the vitamins and nutrients and they are healthy and not poorly in anyway ! :(

You are feeding them a good pellet so rest assured. I have heard that shavings can dry out skin so you may wish to switch to fleece. I use fleece and I am very happy with it.

i think for the mean while ill keep to wood shavings then maybe try out fleece at some point, but i think there malting hair seems to be abit better ! i have been brushing it today as i read on here that it will get rid of any excess malting hair :)

Thank you very much though :D
