So what are you going to do, just leave it like that?
his health was checked over and given a clean bill of health and if he wasnt well he wouldnt be eating and drinking and running around very happily!

If you really can't see that there is anything wrong with him then I really don't think he should be in your care..
This thread is really winding me up in the fact that you could be so naive in thinking that he is fine...
if he was off his food and not drinking and not happy of course i would keep going back.No vet could possibly give this pig a clean bill of health with such a large open (possibly ulcerated) wound.
If this were my guinea pig & I was told he/she was fine, when quite clearly he/she is not I would firstly go elsewhere for a 2nd & possibly 3rd opinion & I'd also be contacting the RCVS regarding the 1st vets opinion backed up with photographic evidence.
why would i keep going back when its not infected? the first sign of infection he would be straight back he is still eating and drinking and happy. If his had the wound for a year why have you not Seen the vet more than twice. If your dr prescribed you something and it didn't work you would go back until they found something which did work or see another dr

Yes a fantastic vet is Jason Burgess at the Woods Animal Hospital on Bristol Road, Quedgeley. Gloucester. I cannot recommend him enough.
well you must all be far more expert than me i will be taking him back to the vet i have never once said i wouldn't i just wanted to know if someone had come across anything like obviously not and I'm sorry to have troubled you all i wont bother again!!If I wasn't so far away I would get in the car and come and take him to the vets myself just to ensure he gets the care and attention he needs.

no i dont speak guinea pig as nor does anyone else i know. there isnt any infection in it as i keep it clean and i am treating it!!Just because he is eating/drinking does NOT mean he is fine as for his happiness, you don't speak Guinea Pig & therefore wouldn't know whether he were happy or not.
That is a large open wound open to bacteria/infection & in my opinion it needs treating, not leaving.
Ask yourself if you'd be willing to have such a wound? You may not feel ill, be eating/drinking but it'd still be there, open & raw.
Why wait for such a time when there may be nothing that could be done, for a time when he may NOT be eating/drinking.
If he is as you say & is so well in himself then now is the best time to get it treated.
How you can sit & look at it is beyond me.
thank you for being positive with me he will be going back to the vets tomorrowPlease go to the vets hun. I have had perfectly healthy pigs who have died within 10mins and they appeared and behaved healthy. Pigs can appear fine right up until the end, so just because he is behaving fine it doesnt mean he is well. well done for joining the forum and asking about your piggie. we cant diagnose as we arent trained vets but none of us have experienced this before so you REALLY REALLY need to go back to another vets. Good luck and i hope he makes a full recovery. xx
