My female guinea has been diagnosed by our Vet with mange mites, after an initial treatment with spot-on I have been advised to bathe her with a salt/water solution. She has the typical V-shaped loss of hair on her back. I am wondering if regular use of spot-on in future will prevent this horrible complaint from recurring?

Some people do treat preventatively but they can build up a resistance to the product so it is best to treat as and when mites occur.

Has your vet given one dose only or do you have another couple of doses to give?

Yes, I have been given another dose to be given in one week's time. A hair/skin pluck was carried out at the Vet and no mites have now been found.

Hi
Just an update on Lucy, she has recovered very well from the mange mite problem, last dose of spot-on was given this week and her skin is almost back to normal and hair growing nicely too.
Many thanks for your concern.
