Good evening everyone. I hope we are all well. I in am in desperate need of guidance.

I help run a guinea pig rescue in Scotland. As most people are already aware, we are full to the brim just like all other rescues.

A woman messaged the rescue in desperate need of surrender. I won't go into details but she was having a hard time. Since the rescue is full, my home has become an overspill. We have been fortunate this year to only have 1 really bad case.

The woman handed me the guinea pigs (in a small box..) & was really keen to get away which made me nervous. I opened the box & found 5 guinea pigs, all sows.

They are all incredibly skittish & also have what I suspect is mange mites. Can someone please let me know if it is possible to give metacam to alleviate the pain until the 9am vet visit tomorrow? Ive done about 2 hours of googling & YouTube as well as reading books but i cant find any solid yes or no. One is quite severe & has an open wound. I want to try to make her/them as comfortable as I can until tomorrow.

They are set up in my living room at the moment. I have 3 6 month old fosters as well as my own 6 guinea pigs up the stairs so of course I'm a bit nervous. I am washing my hands & wearing overalls to handle the 5 to prevent contamination.

Please, don't deviate into other questions if you can. They are booked into the vet for tomorrow morning. We are non profit & rely solely on fundraising & donations. Thank you in advance for your help.

Good luck at the vets. I’m sorry I can’t answer your question.

Thank you Weepweeps, its as id feared. All have mange :(
Oh dear - just seen your thread & posts. So sorry that these ladies all have manage mites. Hopefully they’ve all had a first dose of something suitably strong & that will soon alleviate their discomfort.

Thank you, I'm probably going to have to wrap the worst one when the open wound has healed, hopefully that will prevent her from scratching herself to buggery. She's covered in hard skin :(

Oh poor little love

Those poor pigs.
You are doing an amazing job and they are very lucky to have ended up in your care.
