I have a male sheltie with longish hair, mostly round his butt. He keeps getting it stuck inside his shaft and not getting it out himself, and so even with checking regularly throughout the day the shaft is left out and gets dry.
I've just trimmed his hair down there but is there anything else I could do?
Or is this fairly normal with longer haired pigs?

I would cut his hair really short around that area (including down his legs), hopefully it'll no longer get stuck I don't have long haired boys so can't comment on whether it's common.

I agree with Niki, keep the hair trimmed short at all times :)
bathe carefully with luke warm water and that should also remove any stray hairs ( i have a long haired girl and her hair has to be kept trimmed too )

Is he getting a thick white substance around his penis that the hair is getting stuck to? This will need to be cleaned away, it's a stinky job but important. This should allow his penis to retract into the sheath more easily. A small amount of lubricant can help too, such as KY gel. If the white substance returns quickly then he may have a fungal infection.

This link gives advice on the cleaning - graphic pics warning!

No theres no substances apart from the odd peice of hay. He seems to get it in that situation and then not clean it up himself mallethead
I'm just worried because if I dont catch it fast enough it drys out, it does seem to be alright with cleaning and wetting it enough that it goes back in.
I guess it's just an on going thing pow-pow
