Gilbert is now 7 months old and I've recently noticed that the area between his legs and around his private parts has swollen and is quite bulging. Could he be reaching guinea pig puberty? The area seems quite tender to the touch though - is this normal or could there be something wrong? Please reassure me as I'm going away for Christmas and a friend will be looking after them for 10 days.
 
No this sounds normal - when they are little, their "manly bits" arent noticed that much but when they are older, they show alot! i wouldnt worry yourself about it, it sounds perfectly normal
 
Sounds normal to me also, but without photos it is hard to tell.

I would reckon that it is his testicles that have enlarged ... as they do when they hit puberty ... and I guess if you poke them then the boar would not like it. If it is anything like human men and their delicate areas... well, say no more! rolleyes:))

However, if you are in any doubt that something might be wrong, then perhaps a visit to the vet would set your mind at rest.
 
Thanks guys I feel better now :)

I habitually check Gilb for hay in his willy as he often gets bits stuck, sometimes quite big bits too, and then he sulks about it. He's never been happy about me checking but he's been protesting more than usual since his bits started to develop. I suppose it makes sense :red
