Hi I'm Laura and I'm quiet new on here as some of you will already know i have 4 piggies and have already introduced myself and the piggles however Marge would like to say Hi and tell you her story i know she is a rabbit but you dont have to read.
Me and the other half live on a small housing estate but very much in a town no fields for miles and it was that very snowy winter in 2008 and we kept seeing rabbit footprints in the snow which we thought was odd as could see no rabbit, we arrived home and i saw this white ball of fluff under someones car looking very sorry for itself i quickly sent OH off for the pet carrier and some food so we could trap this bunny as she was white clearly a pet and low and behold she hops right up and in the basket, she stank disgusting, covered in oil but seemed very nice, not being rabbit people we took her straight to the RSPCA who informed us they could not take her as were full but to bring her back in 2 weeks, they checked her over as she was stressed pronunced she was a boy and so off we went with Buzby :(|).
Well Buzby was acting very strangley he kept pulling all his fur out and making the most fantastic nest you have ever seen mixed with shredded newspaper and hay it was most warm, we looked this up on the net and thought maybe he was not a he after all so took this rabbit to the vets who pronunced it was a girl but no definately not pregnant as wild rabbits dont mate with domestic rabbits and not very likely any wild rabbits around us.
Next day i go down check on the newly named Marge and the perfect nest is moving OMG we have babies in a 4ft single teir hutch as she was never ment to stay with us only until RSPCA could take her this was day 13, rang RSPCA no way we can move her now cant bring her inside totally stresses her out so wrap the hutch up and try my best, unfortunately we find 3 babies dead piled up in the corner Marge must of put them like this as not a mark on them just carefully laid out, i was in tears i thought i had no babies so i take a peek and there they are 5 little faces peering back at me 4 boys 1 girl. I am so proud of my bunny for raising those babies all by herself when i vet could not tell she had 8 in her tummy. My sister had 2 neutered boys and 1 girl, and netured the other 2 boys but sadly had to give them to a rescue as they were big bunnies and we are not bunny people but we did keep mummy marge as she did not want to stay with her babies. We put up posters on the estate to see if she was lost and knocked on doors and it turned out that due to the credit crunch they just let her go:)>>> we live next to a busy main road i just turned and walked away no way i was giving her back to them.

thanks for reading so proud of my brilliant mummy marge as she did it all on her own as we didnt have a clue.

Wow what a story. I am so glad you found her. What disgusting people to just throw her out like that.

i no and too admit it, they never even offered me her cage or told me her name or age and i did not want to talk to them any longer i only knocked as saw a hutch and thought some poor child might be missing her.

Oooh hello Marge, you little beauty! Glad she has a loving home now with you xx>>>

It makes me so mad when people treat animals like that, throw them out like they are disposable :)>>>

Marge is a beauty and she is obviously very loved now :) Well done you for giving such a lovely home to an animal who desperatly needed it! x>>

Oh what a lovely story. Seems like your vets didn't have a clue about bunnies though, especially the bit where he claimed wildies won't mate with domesticated buns. What a load of rubbish!

Are the babies a bit more highly strung than your average rabbit? I've heard in the past that babies with are wildie cross are less tame naturally.

Aww! What a lovely end to her story and what lovely, lovely babies!

I'm surprised the vet said that domestic rabbits can't mate with wild rabbits. They are rabbits afterall; the only genetic difference being the genes that make them look like they do (I think!).

I hope you get many more years of love with your bunny. She'll definitely never have to go through anything horrific ever again now she's with you!

Hello Laura,

What a lovely heartwarming story I'm so pleased she has a happy ending/beginning to her life. Beautiful girl x)

yes they are neutered and wild as can be they were reguallary handled but got no better and it stressed them out but luckily my sisters children (12 and 15) just like sitting there watching them which the rabbits are happy with so is a good compramise and they have a big wooden shed and 12 ft run i have really deep scars from where they kicked like billy ho when they were tiny babies.

On a plus point with wild rabbits they have good immune systems, no in breeding for dental problems and you dont have to worry about cats as they will chase them off :(|) and i no longer use that vets.

i no as they are definately wild and I'm even more suprised he could not feel 8 babies in her tummy the day before she gave birth. :))
