Mario Has A Lump :(

So, as some of you may know, Mario is my little boar who was neutered about 3 and a half weeks ago. Everything has been absolutely perfect, he sailed through his op, recovery and got signed off by the vet 2 weeks ago. It's all healed fine, stitches have dissolved and he's as bright as a bean, but last night during checks and cleaning etc I noticed he had a rather large solid lump under his manly bits. I don't know what this is, it isn't painful for him and there is no oozing, or gunk or redness etc just a very obvious lump about the size of a grape. He has a vets appointment for first thing in the morning to get this checked out, but I'm thinking along the lines of an abscess or something? Does anyone have any idea what it could be?
 
Thank you. It's come on so suddenly and it quite big. Like I said it isn't causing him an issue yet but obviously it's far from normal.

Please have him checked in at your vets; abscesses can happen weeks after a neutering operation.
The best antibiotic for treating them is zithromax (azithromycin).
 
Hi Wiebke. As I said in my original post he has a vets appointment first thing in the morning. He would never go without seeing a vet, I just wanted Idea's on what else it could be if not an abscess. Thanks for the info on the antibiotic, i'll see what the vet says.
 
Ok thank you. I can cope with that. I know it sounds awful but I'm praying it's an abscess an nothing more sinister. It's come up fairly quickly though which to me screams abscess. He'll not be impressed at the vets tomorrow lol!
 
I am also keeping my fingers firmly crossed! Thankfully, abscesses can be got on top of much better these days than in the days when we had just baytril. My Bedo needed an op after his abscess refused to go down just on antibiotics, but he made a very fast recovery and has been perfectly fine since. His adoption had been very much in balance for a while because of the complications. :(
 
Fingers crossed all around then :) Hopefully it's just going to be a minor set back as he's done amazingly so far! :)
 
Vet has said it looks like it's a thick walled abscess. He doesn't have a temp at the mo which is a good thing but he is a little under the weather so he's come back with antibiotics (metronidazole) and metacam. He's being seen again on Friday as they think it will end up being surgically removed as it's very thick walled. The vet doesn't think the antibiotics will cure it but she doesn't want to operate until he's pain free and less under the weather and obviously doesn't want to operate if it's not necessary so she said to see if these drugs help and take it step by step.
 
Thank you everyone. I'm hoping he picks up with the metacam as I do believe it's pain making him feel a little off. He's still eating and drinking etc but just not quite right if you get what I mean :(
 
I hope Mario feels better soon! Hopefully the Metacam will do the trick and he'll be feeling better.
 
It was a very long and difficult process this morning giving Mario his antibiotics, but he loves the metacam. The antibiotics must taste rotten!
 
Is it Baytril he is on?

Just checking he is having probiotics too if so?
 
He's been given metronidazole, it's not something i've heard of before. I'm going to pick some probiotics up for him on the way home (completely slipped my mind last night). Which do you suggest are the best? Does he need them if the antiobiotic isn't baytril?
