Can't believe what just happened. My guineas have those trio of balls toys, and Mars and Wispa have the willow one which I have to admit was getting a bit chewed.
I just heard an almighty commotion in their cage and high pitched squeeking and when I shot over Mars was completely tangled in the toy, it was wound around his head and body really tightly. I have no idea how this happened but he was very distressed (as was I!). Thank God it didn't stick in his eyes or happen half an hour later when I'm on the school run.
No obvious injuries but I have taken them out of the other cages in case.
I feel bad because thought it was getting a bit manky and should have taken it out. Poor Mars :(

I was thinking of buying those for my two, but maybe not... bit of a health hazard

Glad he is safe now!

I had that happen too to a girl of mine. Wasn't the trio of balls but a wicker ball - similar kind of thing. Was so scary and I threw it straight away.

At the moment I have grass balls rather than the wicker ones. I think wicker hanging up is okay but rolling about like you say it gets quite manky and they can't get caught up in it.

Glad you were there and it turned out okay.

I am so pleased that Mars is OK and thank god that you were around. My girls only have toys that dangle from the wire mesh of the hutch and a couple of flip and toss toys that they can throw around but that's all I will allow them to have as I am too much of a worrier xx

I have def learned my lesson and will be watching the choice of toys in future - the other 2 balls are a bit more solid but this one was just like an unravelled ball of string - so scary! He was so still while I detangled him, he must have had a fright.

Oh thank goodness Mars is ok and that you were there. My boys love their wicker balls and sticks etc.....but maybe I should remove them from the cage when we're not here just in case....hmmm... something else to worry about now!

Very scary, I am glad he's ok and that you were there to help him.

Can you find a link with the toy that Mars got stuck in?

That would be really good. I'd like to know what it is exactly. Then I can avoid it!

I'm so glad you were there to help! Some of these toys are quite dangerous.

It may be worth contacting Sally at Pampered Piggies about it; I know she'd like to know of this occurance and also the other pig who had problems with it. Word would then spread between the companies who sell it, although it's worth writing to the manufacturer as well.

So glad you were there to help. I had the same drama with my hamster before, my late hammy had a snuggle sac and I decided tonight to donate it to Harry and Alfie had made a massive hole in the lining without me knowing, next minute, Harry is totally trapped in the lining, I was so scared! I have turned it inside out now.

You have to be so careful. :(

I thought the Naturals range was really good. I'll be very selective about their products from now on.

I will drop Sally at Pampered Piggies a line tomorrow now as my laptop seems to be having a fit and connection keeps dropping out, hence the 2 posts saying virtually the same thing!
Seems like piggies are good at getting themselves into sticky situations, lucky for them we are always bailing them out.
Mars seems fine after his ordeal but he was really shocked at the time. How horrible that a simple toy could so easily hurt a pig.:(

I had one of those in my hands to buy the other week and cahnged my mind, glad I did now. So glad you found Mars before any serious harm caused.

I sent Sally at Pampered Pets and email and she has decided to withdraw the product from sale and include a note about the problems with it in the newsletter. She is also going to forward my concerns onto the manufacturer so hopefully no other piggie will get into trouble with this toy.
