Just wondering if anyone uses Marsdens guinea pig pellets on here and if so what are they like? Mine have gone off science selective now i have a huge bag and i refuse to go to pets at home and Marsdens seems pretty good value but loathe to buy any if its rubbish :))

I had never heard ofit, just did a quick search ans it states is is " an ideal feed for lactating and pregnant sows" i am not sure how they come to this conclusion, it could be high in alfalfa which is good for mums and babies, but too much isn;t so good for piggies as its high in calcium.......

Not sure, would be interested to hear what others say.

Have you thought about Burgess Excel?

x

They aren't overly keen had a bag last month, they love pets at home pellets but i hate the place and got half a sack left and when you have 13 piggies it don't go far, they went mad on science selective but now only two will eat it :)) Looking at new options why i asked about Marsdens as it keeps popping up but would rather gauge others feelings on stuff rather go on what the brand says :) x

Was it blackcurrant & oregano nuggets you tried? If so and they wouldn't eat it, are you sure they are piggies? :))

Mine were never fussy before going on to Burgess B&O, if you try to give them anything else now we get a standing protest ha ha!

Otherwise Harringtons pellets are very popular too.

I tried the plain ones this could get pricey :)) I had that with science selective Teddy went on protest as we ran out, now hes only one eating the damn things everyone else is refusing and i have a sack think they may last him and his friend another 6 years or so at rate they are going down :)) x

Ha ha! Mine wouldn't touch the plain ones either, i have tried tricking them, but they aint stupid ha ha! Try the blackcurrant & oregano, i have a voucher i can send you for £2 of to get you started?

xx

i used to feed mine on marsdens they ate it but the prefer harringtons :) and as toffee says all like excel B&O :)

i didnt have a problem with it but the bottom of the bag used to get dusty as it does break easily.

I don't suppose you have a break down of the ingredients do you? I have emailed them but never got a reply regards ingredients. I feed the excel hay cubes with b&o so i do know they like the flavour. Problem having so many is odd ones a picky eater i only use pellets as an extra they have unlimited hay and lots of veg so dry food comes last here but like them to have something thats good quality and not full of rubbish :)

Yeah sure, no problem PM me your address and i will get it posted tomorrow, needs to be used by end of May though xx

I have used marsdens, I'm sure it like every other brand bar cavy couisine is alfalfa (lucerne) based it went down well with mine but the bags are way too large even when I had 5 piggies it would have had to sit around too long for me to be happy with. I now buy 10kg sacks of pets at home nuggets typically as they're not keen on burgess.

Hi degu,

Hand you ever thought of making your own? I just wonder if it is possible and would probably work put to be a lot cheaper with your gang of piggies! ; )

I got a sample of marsdens and my boys liked it so buying a sack (a sack will last me a month having 19 boys), mine weren't keen on burgess and they don't like science selective either. They have pets at home nuggets at moment but Marsdens works out a lot cheaper as two sacks for £23 compared to one sack for £19 and had good feedback off people about it so might give it a try :)

With 19 theres no worries about it going off! that was my issue with it whilst its cheap it'd be sat around months mine did love lit though!

Might have to give it a try for my lot then. Lol my surname is 'Marsden!' :))

Contact them for a sample, they sent me a little bag and all eating it so going to buy a sack or two this week :)
