Martha, who is approximately 4 years old, has snapped one of her bottom front teeth to just above the gum line!

I’ve never had a piggy break so much tooth off before - will it grow back normally?

I had been monitoring her teeth because she broke a small bit of the same tooth off about a week ago, but they had been even-ing up nicely and I wasn’t overly concerned. The tooth was fine when I looked this morning but gone when I looked this evening. I can’t find the tooth anywhere, but then again I suspect it would be difficult to locate - but could she have swallowed it? Will it harm her?

I always thought Martha’s teeth were in good condition - nice and white, evenly worn, and no signs of malnutrition. She has a good diet of hay and fresh veggies. I don’t understand how it has broken off :(

Sometimes it’s a mystery how they do this. If it’s broke above the gum line and there is still a bit of tooth there, it should continue to grow back.
Just keep an eye on them and maybe watch incase you need to cut up harder foods into smaller pieces.
I wouldn’t worry about the part of the missing tooth.
If it happen with one of her other teeth, it could be she has a weekness, so just keep a close eye on her eating and teeth.

I doubt she'd have swallowed it. It should grow back also. Cookie had a week front tooth it broke twice..

I'm sure she will be fine and her teeth will grow back quickly. Sometimes the other top front tooth breaks off after the first one. If that happens make sure you cut her food into small pieces or long fine strips that she can eat without teeth.

Check the tooth to make sure there is no pink showing. If the root is showing, you may want to reach out to a vet to obtain antibiotic so no infection develops and prevents the tooth from growing back. I had this happen on my Tom. I was thankful for a knowledgeable vet who caught it.

Oh thank you, I’ll have a look as soon as I get in from work. I wouldn’t even have considered this!
