Both my boys have (what looks like) a small piece of matted hair above their bottoms/at their tale end. Why is this? Or is it because something is wrong? One of my guineas had it before and i rinsed it with a cotton bud and then was fine but they now both have it

any suggestions please?

That sounds about right and would explain why it feels kinda greasy to touch! Has anyone heard of malaseb shampoo? would a normal guinea pig shampoo do the job?

Thanks flintstones for that link!

I use Fairy up Liquid (works a treat), Malaseb shampoo is only available from the vet it treats fungal (prescription medicine, I believe).

When bathing your piggies, just put a small dab of Fairy up Liquid on the grease gland and massage to break up the grease.

I use Gorgeous Guinea's to bath my piggies but a gentle Baby Shampoo would be also, although avoid anything with Tea-tree.

I probably clean my pig's grease glands once every 6 months. I avoid bathing where possible, it doesn't take long for the grease to build up again.

they are to young to be bathed - perhaps just cut the matted fur away. The General rule is done't bath before 12 weeks - I'd leave it longer though.

I would get a gentle baby shampoo for sensitive skin. As chances are it's probably been tested on Guinea Pigs or some other rodent. If in doubt though I'd use Gorgeous Guinea's as that's used though out the Uk with no negative effects.

Oh ok I didnt know they were too young, ill leave it for a while then :) thanks so much!
