Maude was helped over the bridge today. At 7 years old her body had recently deteriorated, quite a sudden decline that wasn’t expected a few weeks ago. Over the weekend she lost her will to eat, Maude lived for food. To turn down grass meant it was definitely the end. Shaky, skinny and sleepy I expected her to pass last night, but strong willed Maude was still sitting in her snuggle tunnel this morning.
I had to make that tough call and make the choice for her. I feel naturally guilty with the what ifs? But I know it was the right thing to do. Just doesn’t make it any easier does it?
I got Maude just a couple of years ago, someone was looking for a new home for her after her cage mate had passed. I drove 2 hours to Melbourne to pick her up. Immediately I fell in love with her after losing my last Rex, Mary. Rex piggies have always been special to me.
Typically Maude wasn’t well received to either of my existing herds, the girls did not accept her at all.
So Maude got her own cage and quite promptly her own Husboar, Henry. Henry was young and full of character but Maude needed and secretly quite enjoyed that. He looked after her well always licking her eyes and keeping her active and on her toes! Maude was a MASTER as hay poke to the eye. I recon she got at least 15 grass seeds in her eyes over the past couple of years. Miraculously she never went blind!

She was a sweet and funny little character, always begging for food and wheeked ever so loudly. Always standing up at the bars eagerly accepting treats. She was a calm and happy piggie whom enjoyed the simple things in life.
Shes left a huge hole in mine and Henry’s heart. ♥️ we will miss her dearly.
Sleep well lovely lady x

So sorry you had to help your gorgeous girly over the Bridge. It's the last act of love you can give your pet. Don't feel bad Hannah she's out of pain now and back in her prime and has taken all your love for her with her to the Bridge.
