Hi all,
I have two male guinea pigs: Reptar and Maximus. I've posted previously asking for tips on bonding them, they seem to be on the right track as far as bonding but I have one more concern! Maximus (who we have had for only a week) is refusing to eat veggies. Now I know that every guinea pig is different but being a new guinea pig mom I tend to over worry because after Reptar was home for a week he was already eating veggies and fresh fruit treats. Although Max loves hay and food, I worry he may not realize what he's missing out on! I give them two handfuls a day of organic spring mix (which only contains greens that are safe for them) and I also give them apple and/or strawberry 2-3 times a week. I've also been introducing them to whole peeled carrots which Reptar is particularly fond of because they are hard and he can gnaw for a while. Reptar eats his share of veggies and leaves some for Maximus but Maximus will just sort of nibble and move on to hay and I end up with wilted lettuce that I have to remove everyday. What has your experience been with your piggies and fresh food? Will Maximus be okay if he never eats veggies? I posted this picture which represents my daily struggle, Reptar enjoying everything under the sun and Maximus on the side just concerned about hay.

Hi there. Hay should make up 90% of a guinea pigs diet so that means it only takes 5% of vegetables which is a small amount. If he is not too keen on vegetables then I would not worry but you may like to give him a vitamin C supplement just to ensure he is getting enough. This is a good one and needs to be syringed not added to water,

Hi, Your boys are gorgeous  Congratulations

Some piggies are more veg orientated than others, but it will be worth trying lots of different things to see what he likes... Piggies do need veg for vitamin C, he may still be settling in and also possibly a fussy piggy. Is he eating hay okay? No problems chewing etc...

Have a read of these two threads here -

Coriander and coloured bell peppers (Seeds removed) are favourite's with ours, cucumber tends to go down well too

Hi there. I give them Cilantro (I think it's the same as coriander) and only Reptar eats it. I have tried cucumber with Reptar and he did love it! Now that I recall we had a few days of "let's see what veggies Reptar loves" and we tried everything. It could be that the veggies Reptar didn't like (Bell pepper and Zucchini) are ones that Max will love.
