My beauty Maya was off her food yesterday. I couldn't get her to eat anything, not even carrot or cucumber. This is the first time in her nearly three years that she hasn't eaten her veg and greens. She was just sitting in her wooden house, not really looking in pain, just not interested in food. All she ate all morning was a very small amount of a meadow hay cookie. I didn't see her eating any hay, Excel or Harri pellets at all. I couldn't get her to drink either. I left her alone for a few hours. At lunchtime, I decided to try syringe-feeding her some mashed-up Excel pellets. I used the syringe that came with a bottle of Metacam. I only got two portions into her, then offered her the bowl of veg, and she ate it! RELEIF! Been keeping an eye on her all day and she seems back to normal. She ate all her veg this morning and is moving about, eating hay and pellets. She and all the rest had half a slice of cucumber this afternoon. I am taking her to the Vets at 5.30 for a check-up, just to be on the safe side. Will let you know the outcome.

All the best! Weigh her daily at the same time in the feeding cycle instead of the normal weekly weigh-in until you are fully sure that she is OK again. Hopefully, it was just a blip, but it certainly warrants a vet trip for a check.

Thank you for your reply,Wiebke. I took Maya in to the Vets yesterday. He looked at her teeth and had a good feel of her belly but couldn't find anything wrong. He gave her an analgesic injection. I have no idea what that is, but assume its an appetite stimulant. She didn't squeak! Brave girl. She has apparently lost a few grams since she went in in October. She is back to her normal self today, so panic over!
Clyde's going in tomorrow to have his teeth filed again. Because they didn't file file both incisors level, the long spur on the bottom ones developed again quite quickly. I think his bottom incisors are rather too long anyway. I'll ask the nurse to clip them short.

I am glad that Maya is better again! Keep a close eye on her weigh her daily for the next few days.

Incisors should be self-sharpening. If something is wrong with them, it is usually down to the pre-molars not working. Please be aware that bottom incisors look longer than top ones and that clipping them unnecessarily is going to further unbalance the finely tuned teeth and will make things worse rather better.

Thanks again, Wiebke. I won't get his bottom incisors clipped then. I'll just make sure they file both sets level. The last time they were done, the nurse did not mention any problem with his molars or the length of the bottom incisors. Even with this spur on his lower incisors, he has no problem eating. But I know that if it keeps growing, it will eventually pierce the roof of his mouth, which is why it must be filed down. I will have a look at the link you've given.
