Bonding began yesterday in the bathtub. At first everything was going as expecting. McMac was mounting, bit of rumble strutting and that was it. Although I noticed he was grooming the little one too :{ not sure what that could mean. Anyway everything was going normally until baby started rumble strutting. McMac looked a little confused but tried to put him back in his place with mounting and strutting. But then there was a moment when both were trying to mount each other and strutting. Eventually McMac gave up and went to lay down but baby kept trying to mount him which made McMac a little stressed. So I got then both and put them in a pen with grids down the middle so they could have some time out to chill.

None of them had fought at this point, not even teeth chattering.

So I decide to get the C&C cage ready as it was before, with hay loft and stufff. Gave it all a good clean and made sure it smelled neutral and put them both in it. Along with some veg to keep them quiet.
At first there was a lot of chasing in circles, McMac just wanted to chill out and snooze but baby kept trying to mount him and annoy him and McMac kept trying to buck him off.
But after a little bit it eventually went quiet. I think they have sorted everything out. Just wondering if they are the right match. McMac is so chilled out, tolerant and baby seems like a trouble maker, or an annoying kid

Do you think McMac will appreciate having a friend?

I would think he does; things are going well. he's even been power grooming the little boy - inviting him to join his herd as an underpiggy.

Please expect some degree of annoyance going on; the boys need to test out each other's limits. I am sure that McMac will put his paw down if necessary.

Here is a list of boar behaviours from out behaviour section in mounting order of aggression. As you can see your two boys have very much been in lower levels. Humping is very part of boar life and intros are generally humping fests.

Sounds great !

My pair Bentley and Chester are just like this, Chester is sleepy and always gets pestered by Bentley humping him from all angles, but i think that makes a good pair, they play together all the time, and i picked them because one was sleepy and one was playful to bring out the best in both i hoped,

I'm sure McMac is loving the company !

Hiya,

This seems very much like the experience we had yesterday with Wallace and Tim. Wallace was doing the 'whatever look' while Tim was jumping about - there was a lot of follow my leader going on. There was a lot of rumbling and teeth chattering which was mostly from young Tim. It seems that the older piggy Wallace has seen it all before and is just glad to have a new friend. There have been no signs of agression whatsoever, infact, as we headed off to bed the boys were both sleeping together in the same house although we kept the doors open to both bedroom and livingroom incase of any disagreements but heard nothing. I think your piggies are behaving normally - piggies do what piggies do ;)

I hope they manage to sort it all out. Who do you think will be the dominant one, is it usually the more active pig or the bigger older pig? Or is there no way of telling lol.

I haven't heard any commotion from them today so wondering if they have sorted everything out between them. McMac is very chilled out and just eating and lazing around. Baby is hiding under the ramp.

I think it is all going well :)

Aww they sound like they are getting on really well. Pictures please.
