Hello!

I am new onto this site, and i already love it!

I have a wee piggy called Dave! Which i rescued from someone who seems to have never handled him ever! I believe he is about 4 years old, and is a real cheeky one!

He will let me tickle his nose sometimes, but touching him means him giving it legs and running off! He is not scared though, just doens't want to be touched! As he is 4 already, i am unsure whether to push it and keep handling him as catching him may well stress him out. Maybe he wont change to liking it this far into his life?

He has a little ramp which comes down from his hutch, and he lives indoors with us, as he is on his own. we keep him indoors so he gets plenty of company. He runs about the house chirping quite happliy! He used to live wiht two rabbits, which were much bigger than him. We were worried that he would get really bored on his own, but he seems content. Lots of squeeks and mad half hours running and popcorning about! I was thinking about getting him spayed (or whatever its called) and trying to introduce him to a young femail? Any ideas?

I will have a go at posting some pictures if i can figure out how!

:D HELLOOOOOO Welcome ! Cant wait to see Dave! He sounds a cutiepie! :smitten:

Hi & welcome :)

Dave sounds lovely :smitten:

You could get him a male friend to save putting him through the neutering operation. I contacted rescues in my area & then took my boy along so he could be introduced there to see if he would get along with another boy & he did! It will depend on the personalities of Dave & the other piggie but it can work out well.

I think you should pick Dave up & give him lots of cuddles. They all run off when you try & catch them but once you are holding him you should find he will be happy & enjoy the cuddles. O0

Anyway, look forward to seeing you around the forum.

I have lots of piccy's on my pc, but they all seem to be too big?!? Not sure how to make them smaller!

I am unsure whether he would like to cuddles really, i would though! I never really thought about putting him with another male as i was scared of them fighting like my neighbours did. And if they dont get on, i dont have enough room really to keep them seperately. Not sure what to do, is he a bit old for a spay operation? Not sure how long piggy's generally live.......6 years ish?

Well if you get the piggie from a rescue, firstly they can do the introduction there to see how it goes. Then if it doesn't work out once you get them home you can take the other pig back to the rescue.

There isn't really an age limit to getting them neutered, but you will need to find a vet who is experienced in carrying out this operation on guinea pigs.

The average age is 5-8 years I think, sometimes they live longer but sometimes younger. One of my boys died in April, he was only 3yrs 9mths :'(

Oh no, I'm sorry. :'(

We have become very attached to Dave, my boyfriend thinks he is great! We both find ourselves chatting away to him!

I will have a look at some rescue places nearby, i think there is at least one. We rescued him from a womans garden which is a neighbour of a friend, she didnt want the two rabbits or Dave, and they were being so neglected. So my friend has the rabbits and we took Dave, as she seems to be allergic to guinea pigs, but not rabbits!

You would probably find that Dave would get on ok with a baby boy at 4 I wouldn't risk an unecessary operation..........
He'd probably be glad of a little mate!

Thank you for your condolences.

Thank goodness you & your friend rescued these poor guys. Rabbits & guinea pigs shouldn't be housed together as the rabbits can hurt or even kill the piggie with a kick from their back feet!

Piggies do make lovely pets & being social creatures it's best to have two if possible. It's well worth you contacting the local rescues :) My boy Murran is 4 too l
