Anyone know where I can get large bags of meadow hay reasonably cheap?

Online and/or off

Zooplus.co.uk has meadow hay :) and it's pretty cheap, and if you have somewhere to store a big box of it, you can get 14kg and it's really good value :) and my piggies love it

I buy mine from Hayforpets. A large bag of the meadow hay is nearly a bale and it's been good value as they eat the lot.

Unfortunately the postage adds to the costs.

I've been buying from wilko's at £2.20 a bag but the last couple of lots have been a stalky and crap so have ordered samples from hayforpets which isn't much more expensive and think I'll be ordering from them in future

Local livery yard/feed merchant? I buy mine by the bale, it's a lot cheaper, £7.50 a bale

It took me a year to find out I had a farmer up the road that sells excellent meadow hay, its lovely green fresh smelling nom nom drool and they cost £3.50 per bale
A bale weighes 30kg+ However if you cant source a good local farmer/horse supplier I would recommend hayforpets and dustfree

I've ordered from Hay for pets and it is free delivery in the UK http://www.hayforpets.co.uk/products.html
I've had the Ings type hay cos I wanted to try it and its very nice.

hayforpets largest bag 9.5kg is about a third of a bale £15.00 for meadow hay

Dust Free I used to order too which is really nice hay http://www.dustfreehay.co.uk/hay.html You can choose to order soft or stalky or a mixture of the two. 5 of their bags cost beween £31.49 to £19.99 depending if you want the hessian top quality hay, or the not so good plastic bag hay. 5 bags should weigh about 10kg
They do sell a stringed bale of dust free at £26.99 which should weigh in at 14kg. Free postage in the UK
Both companies sell the nice long stranded hay which is excellent for piggies teeth :)

In comparison Hayforpet and Dust free is less expensive than buying P@H crappy chopped brown hay 3kg for £5.99 :)>>>

ASDA are selling 3.5kg bags for around £4.00 at the moment (normal price around £5.50). We are using this hay and it's fine, (the odd bit of small tree branch) but quite good.

I get a massive bale of short cut hay from my local West Cumbria Farmers shop, it costs me just over £7 which suits me and lasts about 6-8 weeks. ;)

I switched to this one from Zooplus after being disappointed with so many suppliers, the piggies love it. Smells lovely and is a long green hay - actually caught OH with his face in the bag the other evening having a good whiff mallethead

I've just made an order to Zooplus and after reading so many recommendations for Mountain Meadow Hay recently on this forum added a big bag of to my order - hope my piggies enjoy it! I'm sick of them eating the cheap crap I buy them for bedding and stomping all over the expensive Excell Herbage! mallethead

I was honestly at my wits end with hay - dusty and damp seemed to fit the bill and to find a good amount to keep 12 piggies going for a couple of wheeks, was a pain in the bum rolleyes They've tried American Timothy Western, Alfalfa, most supermarket stuff and walked off after a quick nibble :{
This is by far the best we've come across so far but am always looking out for other suppliers - wish I could get small sample bags to try but am happy for the time being until the piggies decide they don't like it as they do :x:(|)

I currently have around 16-18kg of meadow hay in my shed, with 4.5kg on the way. I use Hayforpets and/or my local pet shop sell big bags of it which I find quite good, a little more dusty than Hayforpets but overall good quality.

The bale of Mountain Meadow Hay arrived this morning..I filled up the hay lofts and I now have 4 very happy piggle wiggles up to their ears in hay and munching away...soooo glad they like it! It smells lovely. :)

Not about hay but I have recently switched to shredded cardboard for the shed floor . It is dust free ,a big bonus for peeople with chest problems. I got it from the shredded paper company.

Glad they like it too - it's a really good hay and my piggies love it :))
Makes our lounge smell lovely ;)

I love the mountain hay and so do my piggies! I've been looking at DFH and Hayforpets and whilst I am tempted to order a Timothy and Rye from hayforpets, the zooplus hay is cheaper, you get more, and my piggies loved the stuff. Shall be ordering another box I think! :)
