Guess this could also go in the illness section but basically my Hetty has highly suspected cervical lymphadenitis. She is having surgery to remove the lump tomorrow as it’s small and she is healthy otherwise. I am adopting a neutered boar who is going to be alongside her (separate cage completely and not joined, washing hands, no shared bowls or hideys or anything he has all new things). I think quarantine would be 4 weeks but I’m opting for 5.

But now I’m concerned whether to just leave Hetty as a lone piggy in case she becomes a carrier. She is 2.5 years old so ideally wouldn’t want her on her own. I couldn’t have two cages alongside indefinitely as I don’t have the space.

What are people’s thoughts? Has anyone had this before? Did you rebond a pair after illness quarantine? Problem with the internet is there is so much conflicting information but not so much actual people who have experienced it.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate this forum for all its help with our tricky little potatoes.

I'm thinking that Hetty will need to be quarantined after the op. She might be too unwell to bond for a while. Is there a way of assessing how contagious she is, poor girl? It is tricky having a single piggy with a medical issue. I hope things work out for you 🙏❤️

Thanks. I would quarantine for 5 weeks after surgery. She is absolutely fine at the moment and I’m sure once removed she will be ok. My exotic vet is great. But it’s the risk of her continuing to be a ‘carrier’. I don’t even know if this is a thing. It’s fairly rare although when you search it up seems to be bacteria most piggies have it just can sometimes turn bad.

I think it's something you need to check with your vet. The internet is full of 'ideas' and you really need to be guided by your vet.
