Sorry long post.
On the 8th I took Ginger to out of hours vet as he suddenly went of his food, it was thought that he might have a kidney infection so baytril and zantac prescribed also booked with local cavy savy vet for following Thursday 13th. So cavy savy vet x-rayed and found what seemed to be abcess on his lung and a very full gut.. continue with baytril and zantac with addition of 0.01 of metacam once a day(now up to rice daily on vet approval) which seems to have made him perkier.
From the first visit I was syringe feeding (& daily weighing) and I'll be the first to admit I'm not great,I have never managed large quantities in a day but I'm now having to wrap him in a towel because he's starting escaping when I try to feed him. I've also been giving him fiberplex twice a day as he was eating woodshavings cardboard etc...so long and short of it in three weeks he's slowly droped and gained but mostly dropped by 120g. Weight tonight 1034g
Coat is in good condition, eye still clear and bright. No skin problems. He is popping ok. Eating: minimal nuggets, hay and drinking plenty.
Any suggestions on pepping up his intrest in food?
Could the medication now be putting him off eating?
I do think he's getting lonely as his buddy died about a week before his first vet trip.

Mine always love dandelion leaves and grass, beetroot from a Bistro Salad and oats are good at increasing weight. Hope Ginger gains his appetite soon and recovers well x

He could be pinning for his lost companion?

Baby sweetcorn and dry porridge oats are good for weight gain.
What are you syringe feeding him? Mine aren’t fond of critical care. I use Emeraid which mine adore, and it’s higher in calories so you need to feed less of it. Alternatively you could try a bit of mushed pellets mixed with some baby food like Ella’s kitchen - puréed vegetables/fruit bags are great for improving the taste of recovery feeds.

I've been using mushed pellets with a bit of selective recovery. I'll give anything a try currently thanks
