I'm wondering if anyone can help me understand the meds my pigs were given today (enrobactin and metacam) for a suspected UTI.
for the metacam it says give 0.74ml, is that normal? I'm a bit paranoid as it seems quite a lot in the syringe.
And for the enrobactin it says give 0.42ml. Again,is that a high dose?
My boyfriend had to take them to the vets for me, so I didn't get to ask a million questions like I usually would.
Any help would be appreciated

Sorry,Just realised this is in the wrong section but I don't know how to move it

i would ring the vet to clarify if the doses are once daily ,or twice daily.the doses are best given twice daily,as guinea pigs have a very fast metabolism.I'm sorry that your piggie is poorly.enrobactin is Baytril an antibiotic, metacam is an anti inflammtory, and a pain /analgesia.

It really is a good idea to call the vet and clarify dosages.
I also agree with @eileen that both antibiotic and pain relief (Metacam) are usually given twice a day, so the amounts you have been prescribed probably need to be split into 2 doses.
With Metacam the amount really depends on how much your piggy weighs, and also if it is dog or cat Metcam as the concentration differs.
But as an example my 1kg guinea pig was recently prescribed 0.3mls of dog Metacam, twice a day.

thanks for your replies, I spoke to the vet and the metacam is just the whole dose once a day (dog metacam) just seems like a lot in the syringe for such a little animal
