Was sitting at the computer and our resident hawk landed with his latest catch of a pidgeon. Our guineas have sheets pegged over their outdoor runs to prevent sunstroke and to prevent this lovely bird getting hurt trying it's hand at an easy meal.

We live just on the edge of the city near an airport and a busy main road but these fellas turn up everywhere - a great advertisement for covered runs outdoors.

Wow, I know he's a predator but he's a pretty impressive bird.

My runs are fully enclosed but as I live in the middle of nowhere and have a lot of large owls around I pin a shower curtain over the top for the same reason. It also makes a noise when the wind ruffles it which I find scares things away but doesn't seem to bother the girls.

Oh my goodness! Gorgeous but deadly hawk!

Great idea covering up your piggies outdoors!

Sparrow hawks only usually eat small birds so I don't think it would go for the guineas but I would not like to chance it and end up with traumatised guineas and the hawk hurting herself on the wire

That's an impressive bird!

I always cover my run - not just against the sun, but also raptors (we've got a colony of seagulls sleeping on the school field next door) and the neighbourhood cat.
