Following the sad passing of Lightning recently, we have welcomed a new addition to our home in the form of a tiny bundle of fur called Gregory.

Domino was looking a bit forlorn so we decided he ought to have some company. My son didn't want to replace Lightning who was a pure white albino, Gregory is the exact opposite!

He has been quarantined in his own space for a few days, and then we moved his bed close to Domino at night. Domino was wheeking like crazy and up on his hind legs trying to see him. After being initially very shy, he really came out of himself last night and was very active, feeding from my hand & loving being stroked.

Today, I have put them in a neutral space together and so far I have been sitting in with them for an hour and a half. I was only going to try 10 minutes or so at a time but it's gone very well indeed. Lots of sniffing, popcorning (from Gregory) and jumping in and out of the hay box. Domino has claimed dominance already and Gregory keeps going back to see him. No nipping or chattering which I am surprised at.

I'll let them have another hour this evening, keep them apart tonight & do the same tomorrow. If all goes as well as it has done today, they should be ok to be together properly in a couple of days. Early days but the signs are all good.

Some pics attached of the cutie (so tiny compared to Domino!).

Hello Gregory  So lovely to see you!

I am sure you and Domino will be the best of friends!

If everything is fine now don’t separate them again as they will only have to start all over again and this can be stressful for them x can you just clean the cage thoroughly now and pop them both in?

Your boys are both very handsome x

Congratulations on your new addition and I’m so pleased Domino is happy with his new companion.
As @Bill & Ted has said - if they’ve bonded don’t separate them.
Hope to see more pictures

Hi! It is going extremely well! The boars are obviously happy together. :tu:

PLEASE do NOT split bonding boars! It means that they have to start right back in square one again after each separation and don't really get the chance to fully bond without a lot of unnecessary stress und separation pain.

If you are really worried (which I wouldn't as acceptance and hierarchy sort-out have happened), you can leave them together in the bonding pen overnight before moving them to their cage tomorrow. But personally, I would just give them a couple more hours in the bonding pen and then move them into their cage (without any hideys with only one exit so you have time to keep an eye on them while they settle there.

Thanks! Yes clean cage ready. I did take them out before I saw your messages so I'll pop them back in - they are right next to each other so hopefully it will be fine. I wasn't expecting things to go so well 😂 totally relieved!

Thanks! Will get them back in now & will post more tonight...they are so funny, the little one is much braver than I thought

Thanks- your advice has been invaluable. They have been out for only a short time so back in they go! I had cobbled together a makeshift neutral zone but thankfully the amazon guy has just arrived with a more secure indoor pen so I'll get that up & pop them back in.

Boys back in. An initial scuffle but back as they were & now sharing a plate of veggies. All good 👍
