Junior Guinea Pig
Okay so as some of you may know my Little-pig (that's his actual name!) has been alone since November when he lost his companion Dalila. He lost both his companions within about 6 weeks of each other and has been alone since. It has really affected him being alone, he has lost body condition and has been 200 grams down in weight since being alone. His appetite is much smaller and he doesn't exercise enough so lost muscle toning.
My parents were dead set against getting another due to paying around £2.3k on just two guinea pigs last year and inevitably losing them after that. I respected their decision as I could understand why they were against it. I honestly considered rehoming Little-pig in order for him to be able to get the company he needs. Somehow I have managed to persuade my parents to finally let me have another! It has only taken 5 months to persuade them. Now that all the vet bills are paid for and that things are ticking back over again, I am able to get another.
So I am an animal management student at a land based studies college. We have an animal management centre with animals of course, guinea pigs being one of the many different variety species they have. My college retire guinea pigs around the age of 3 so they can be adopted out and live out the rest of their years in a family environment. I contacted the technicians and enquired. The adults that you adopt, you just give a small donation to their chosen charity. They do also sell babies, which I do not agree with in any way, however it is part of a study programme. I am pro rescue and always adopt, some people may not view this as adoption which is fine however I am taking on a nearly 3 year old guinea pig. The good thing is I will be able to get all her history and whatnot, hopefully she will live a long happy and healthy life.
I cannot have Munchkin for 2-3 months as she is required to stay there until that time. She is having a last litter and then once the babies are weaned I can bring her home. She is 3 as will Little-pig will be this year.
Oh yes she is a teddy breed too.
Here is my boy!
