We've adopted a little one! Here's Paddy - he was in the adoption section, down as requiring special care. He has nerve damage to one of his back legs and so hardly uses it, but he is very active and has been eating and drinking like mad!

His name was Patrick, we have shortened it to Paddy. He is next to Tiger and Jeremy, who are now living together in a big cage.

If anyone has experience of a piggy with a similar problem I'd be interested to hear how they got on.. apparently he has been seen by vets who have said he will not regain the use of his leg, but it would be nice if over time it improved..
 
Paddy is very handsome, that's great that he is settling in so well.

The only advice I can give re the back leg is to make sure he's not bedded on long-stranded hay, to prevent it winding round his leg.

Ooh thanks for that, we were getting long-stranded hay from one of my colleagues who has a farm, but it made me sneeze loads so we are back on the short stuff.
 
He is so sweet! congrats on your new addition, I am sure OH is secretly happy about it :))
 
Update on Paddy & his Leg!

I don't know if anyone remembers our Paddy that we adopted, he only had the use of 3 legs and P@H told us he had been seen by 2 vets and would not regain the use of one his back legs due to nerve damage at birth... here he is as a little bub.

well we took him to our own vet who examined him and said they didn't know if he would get full use of his bad leg back but we could try some exercises with him. We did, they went OK but tehn he seemed to have hurt his leg even though we only did a few and very gently. However his leg seems to have been getting stronger, so much so that we put a platform into his cage and he is now jumping on and off quite happily and using both back legs! Well done Padster!
Here's some new pics of him - the last one shows him pushing off on his bad leg. :) He's growing too, he's getting to be a little chunk!

AWWW - he is a gorgeous lad! So great for you that he has improved past all expectations! :)):)):))

He is such a handsome hunk. It sounds as though the bad leg is not causing him too much trouble. He was very lucky to have chosen you as his piggy slave. More photos when you can please!

I remember him Katie, he was a gorgeous baby & has grown into a very handsome chappie. Am chuffed to bits for him & you to read about his leg x)
 
Awww, Katie, sorry, I have only just seen this thread - I'm so pleased Paddy is coming along nicely! All that hard work you put in with his therapy is doing him so much good when he had been given such a bleak outlook.

It lifts my heart to know that there are people like you who are willing to do all it takes to make his life better when others can't even be bothered to take their pigs to a vet when they see trouble.
 
eeeh, thanks Julie! Although we didn't do much, we had to stop his exercises as he seemed to have a relapse, but I watched him today and he used both legs to get up the steps of his platform! I still think he hops a bit, I guess it will take time for him to unlearn the habit, but he is growing into a lovely little chunk, and he has these mad tufts of hair behind his ear, like our Roly used to!
So much for Pets at Home and their diagnosis!

AWWW he's really really gorgeous and I bet he lives a wonderful life with you. I know it's not quite the same but we had a hamster with 3 legs the mum had bitten off one back leg (we think) and he lived a proper life and still climbed right up the bars and stuff. It meant so much to see him do the normal things that other hamsters do. I bet he's not held back by it that he just gets on with things.
