Meet the newest addition to my piggy family: Romanadvoratrelundar!

...or Romana for short :))

She arrived this morning. She is apparently 5 years old. Her sister died in November and her previous owners did not want to get another piggy, so she has come to me.

She’s a bit of a state - severely overgrown nails which have now been trimmed (you may have seen my post about her nails), only 776g in weight, very dry flaky skin, a hard lump that may be a urethra stone, and her teeth are the worst I’ve ever seen (she has one on the top and one on the bottom as the other two have broken. The teeth show signs of poor nutrition, and are growing back towards her mouth. Goodness knows what her back teeth are like).

So she’ll be off to see Simon tomorrow hopefully, and fingers crossed we can do something for her so that she can have the life she deserves!

Heck I reckon those nails were great to get cut it’s great she’s looked after now :luv:

Hello officially to Romana. She has landed on her newly pedicured feet. How you can sort her teeth out and she can enjoy her new life of luxury.

OMG those nails are terrible, poor little adorable girl. I'm sure you will have her in tip top condition in no time :)

Hello Romana. You new piggie mummy is going to show you what tlc is. I admire you for takin on a piggie that needs lots love etc. x

Romana ... what? how long is that name? lol!
She's beautiful isn't she:love::love:, well done on giving her a home & trying to get her back to rights again. Bet she can't believe her luck, landing on her paws with you :luv:
Wow those nails were long - bet she feels more comfortable now? Aww bless.... good luck at the vets & hope the teeth are sorted easily & quickly

plenty more pics too please :P xx

Thank you for all your lovely comments about Romana  She is indeed named after Romana from Doctor Who (many of my piggies have Whovian names :))). I thought Romana would be quite fitting as this is her new life!

We’re just heading off to the vets now. Here’s another pigture:

Good luck! Mine are all named after Harry Potter characters :))

Hope your pretty little lady gets on with the vet alright :)

We’re back from the vets! No new photos of Romana tonight as she’s a bit traumatised, bless her, I do however have a picture of the stone that was removed...

She did a very long wee after that was removed! She has also done more poops in the past 30 minutes than she had done in the last 24 hours, so I think she’s feeling a lot more comfortable down there!

Teeth were a bit of a state. Her overgrown top tooth has been filed down to a much more comfortable length. The bottom tooth was filed as well, but is growing in an odd direction so we don’t know yet if that’ll return to normal. Her bottom gums looked very inflamed. The second tooth on the top was broken off. Surprisingly, her back teeth weren’t too bad! She’s got another appointment in four weeks.

Poor baby was shaking so much, I’ve never known a piggy to be so scared, it broke my heart.

Oh poor Romana with a stone that big she must have been so uncomfortable! She will be feeling much better with properly clipped nails, no stone, proper length teeth. Poor thing a vibrating piggie is not nice to see - she must have been terrified. So much has changed for her in the last couple of days she must be wondering what is going on. She won't understand that it's for her own good. Just give her loads of love and she'll soon learn that you only want the best for her. Sending her healing vibes by the bucket load and hugs to you too!

Aww she looks relaxed and her nails look great, can just see them on the pic

We took a reference photo today so that we can monitor her teeth over the next four weeks. Believe it or not, these are actually an improvement!

The top tooth with all the ridges on was very overgrown, growing backwards into her mouth (which made it difficult to even get a syringe in). You can see that the other top tooth has broken away.

The bottom tooth is growing at a funny angle, but colour-wise it doesn’t look too bad (although it’s more yellow than the picture looks). We’re keeping our fingers crossed that it will straighten up over time. The second bottom tooth is completely missing - if it’s there, it’s below the gum (which was inflamed and looked painful).

Simon did a great job, Romana was able to eat some leafy greens last night!

Oh poor sweetheart, glad she managed some veggies!

Oh dear those teeth aren't good are they? Poor girl! Glad she's found a loving home with you! Hopefully the teeth will improve with a proper diet which she'll be getting from now on.

How do they get like it, just curious did he say. Is it no hay and proper food alone or genetics as well?

I don’t think it’s possible to say. If her teeth return to normalish then you could probably say it was diet, but then if they don’t return to normal we can’t be sure it’s genetics because it could be that poor diet did permanent damage.

Oh the poor girl! She is in safe and loving hands now. How can people mistreat these lovely animals? It's quite beyond me! An animal is for live and when you take one on you need to love and care for it! Unfortunately not everyone realises that.

So pleased to hear Romana is relieved of that stone - poor girl.
It would horrible in a human never mind a little piggy.
Those lovely pics seem to show that she's getting over her trauma.
She's in the best place with you now.
