I feel terrible about buying another guinea pig from a petstore ok so please go easy on me.

I had to do it. Trek was very lonely and I felt terrible for him.

RE. my other post.. thank you for all your good ideas and suggestions. Thanks for taking the time to give me help and advice. It is very much appreciated but what is done is done now.

Puddles is 6 weeks old. He is definately a male I checked. I am worried sick I get this wrong but I have to try.

I'm sorry if i've offended anyone by buying from petshop but i've done it now.

My priority is Trek and my new guinea. I am going to need a lot of help and suport from you all.

Again please don't critisie me.. just think what a lovely lady trying the very best for her lone guinea pig. :)

How are you going to introduce them? what sort of cage is Trek in? because if he is a little nervous of other guineas it would be a good idea to clean his cage out disinfect it, put lots of green in the cage so food is the distraction needed.

if i have just told you how to suck eggs then i am truly sorry,

Emma

Sorry to play devil's advocate here. You hated the pet shop. You feel terrible about doing it. You knew there were rescue pigs needing homes. You didn't like the conditions the pigs were kept in at the store yet you helped line their pockets.

This really, really depresses me.

Thank you for that Daftscotslass. I am a very inexperienced owner who doesn't know what I am doing. I am trying to do the very best for my piggy and i'm in tears here. I just wanted him to be happy. Everyone on the site agree with pairs of piggies. I just wanted to do thw best. I'm sorry i'm disappointed you but right now I would really appreciate some help and support

Its very obvious that you love your piggies very much. Puddles is a very lucky little man to have come to live with someone who is going to love him very much.

I am sure Trek will be really happy with his new friend. Sit with them both on your lap for a little while so they get used to one another.

I really hope you enjoy keeping piggies as much as I do. :D

Congratulations on your new piggy - they both deserve a good home and it sounds like with you they've got one. Good luck bonding them - have you checked out Barmy4Boars? Loads of good tips there!

Piggies are very addictive and I'm sure you can find rescue pigs in the future so don't feel guilty - my first pigs were from a petshop too.

I don't understand why you asked for an opinion on the other thread this morning and then, 3 hours later, you are home with a new pig from the pet shop. I really, really don't get it.

I don't think you should judge so harshly - at the end of the day it's a free choice what we do. I don't think anyone should sit as judge and jury, I have both petshop pigs, pigs from a breeder and rescue pigs and my main concern is to care for them properly.

I asked a valid question - why ask for advice when you know what you're going to do already?

Naturally, because I don't share everyone's opinion I'm the big old meanie.

I know people who have bought a piggy and then lied on the forum as they're too scared to tell the truth and I don't think that's right. You're not a meanie - you have a valid point but I think it's up to the individual to ask for advice, read the advice and make their own mind up - it sounds as if squeakywheeky has had a terrible night trying to decide what to do and wanted a pig straight away which obviously doesn't happen through a rescue. Now I know more I'd be quite happy to let my pig wait a few weeks, it wouldn't kill him, but she wanted him to have a friend straight away. At least the pigs will be well cared for and won't end up in rescue a few months down the line

My concern is that its quite clear that this lady is going to be a brilliant piggy owner. If she didn't care she wouldn't have lay awake worrying about Trek being on his own.

She has got him a friend now so hopefully she can relax and start to enjoy being a wonderful piggy mummy! :D

She is keen to learn so lets all give her the support she needs right now! :D

daftscottlas - you're not the meanie. I'm very sensitive and responded in haste. I think you miss interpretted my last post. I explained that I was concidering getting another piggy. I asked what I should do. Get one now or wait till later. i asked about baby piggies. I also said in my last post to try not to judge. Got to get back to piggies.. they're in the hall (both never been there) been running around making diferent noises. Trek has been popcorning but Puddles is sniffing trek alot. Booth wheeking loudly although think i heard noises that meant 'stay away' too. watchinf them closely. They eating greens at min. Been in there 20 mins.

They sound like theyre getting alomg then i think! good luck with them

They're both huddled under a cardboard tunnel.. all has gone quiet :-\

What's the :-\ face for? :) I'm sure they're fine! If they're huddled together and quiest maybe they're sleeping together? :smitten:

If everything is quiet I wouldn't worry. If it starts to go wrong you will deffinately hear them making a lot of noise. My boys nearly brought the house down with their chattering and rumbling when they fell out.

I agree with you Kayjay
we've all prob bought from a shop at some time and saved from rescues other times, just because someones thinking of buying a piggy from a shop and is scared to admit that he/she has,all they want is advice not slapping down
I kinda think Scotslass was a little bit harsh there, sorry

I got no piccies yet. Gunna wait till little girl has gone to bed tonight, put my big fluffy dressing gown on and give them lots of attention - get hubby to take pic then.

I'm so pleased with how its gone. They're in a cleaned and disenfected cage in my living room. Puddles is lying in Trek's corner :o and Trek is muching a hand full of grass. They're quiet.

Been a rough old few days but i'm on the up.. looks like i've got a couple of happy piggies, a happy owner and a toddler asleep so i'm off to read up on introductions (yes it;'s a bit late now :embarassed:) via the links you have posted.

Thanks for the cavyspirit one daftscotslas and barmy4boars :) .oO(let bygones be bygones :) )

Nor me. As long as you love and care for your piggy thats the main thing. Dont worry.

I've bought from pet shops in the past, but wouldn't now as i know there are plenty more that are unwanted and need loving homes to take them on. That is my preference.
I hope they get on. I'm sure they will. Cant wait for pics! :)

I think when people are very pro-rescue and try to explain about the whole pet shop selling animals thing to people who genuinely are not aware, it can be frustrating when people decide to buy a pet from there anyway and its difficult for us to comprehend why, especially when someone who is clearly a compassionate pet owner is interested. Do you mind me asking what made you decide to buy from the pet shop in the end out of interest, was it a time issue because your boy needed a friend?

However, it is a free country and its not for someone like me (for example) to say someone is wrong for buying in a store, whatever our personal feelings on it. From what I gather you were very concerned your piggie should have a pal. At least you were interested in finding more about your new pets, unlike many others! I hope all goes well for them! :)
