Yesterday afternoon Meg was bright and alert and her usual self, and when I went to do the nightly poo sweep she was not doing her usual chasing me around the cage and climbing on the dustpan. She was lying in her cuddle cup and not paying attention. So veggie treats came out, no interest. Pea flakes (the Holy grail of this piggie's life) were slowly accepted and dropped. Not good. So our came all the critical care stuff, I battled to get some food into her. She was lethargic, but not so much that she couldn't squirm. Got a few mls in, went to bed. Got up a few hours later, same. Still lethargic, eyes half closed, same spot I left her. If she looked even a little bit worse in a few hours I was going to risk the emergency vet (three figure sum just to make an appointment - I was once told 'yep, this pig is very sick', given a CC packet and charged £200. I think it's a different place now). So I get up at five to do another feed. No Meg in her hide. Wait, she's in the hay! She's eating the hay! She looks completely normal! Back to bed I go, and check in this morning. She's up at the bars trying to follow me around the room, begging for pea flakes. If I hadn't seen her last night I would not have thought anything was wrong. So she has a vet appointment in an hour with my trusted vet, fingers crossed that this was just a blip, wish me (and Meg) luck! IMG_20190807_134344.webp

Well, we had the vet appointment, she was lively and very helpful, when the vet asked how she was pooing, she then demonstrated on the vet, such a good girl. After getting fed up with the poking and prodding she must have decided the vet needed another demonstration and proceed to christen the vet, his trousers, his table and floor. Then she clocked in a couple of grams above her highest weight and made me look like a crazy lady. I'm to keep an eye on her and bring her back if it happens again but the vet thinks it may have been gut stasis about to kick in, prevented by the syringe feeds keeping her gut moving, or possibly a seizure that I saw the after effects of, although he can find no sign of either. Meg you are a nuisance although I'm very glad youre OK.

What a scare for you. I hope she just had a blip and is okay now. As for her treatment of the vet, clever Meg, you tell them what you think of their poking and proding. :))

So Meg was bright and lively all of today, but I am now thinking she had a seizure or an ear infection, as she is very wobbly and is listing to one side. Her back leg on one side doesn't seem to be doing what she tells it and her head is a little tilted. I will get her back in first thing tomorrow but she is eating fine at the moment, anyone have any advice? Will post a video...

My boy had a seizure or something and had to be put to sleep (that, on top of an ongoing respiratory problem and liver disease). It was sad because he really wanted to live but he had no control of his head and mouth to eat/drink, it was so upsetting. I can’t offer any advice apart from get her seen by the vet soon, especially if she begins struggling to eat or drink for herself

She seems back to normal again. I'm worried that this is something incurable, like a tumour causing this. Will take her back to the vet tomorrow and see what he thinks.

What a worry for you. I hope that the vet can shed some light on it for you and you can get to the bottom of what is causing this behaviour. Hope you have a peaceful night

Good luck for later. Hopefully the vet can give you some answers. Healing wheeks from my four 💕

Show the video to the vet it may help him with the diagnosis. My Meg sends lots of healing wheeky wheeks to your Meg.

Thank you to all who have replied or wished Meg well, Meg sends thank you wheeks too. We had another vet trip today, whereupon she tried the protest pee again. Unfortunately for Meg, this pleased the vet as it was a handy sample and he was able to test her urine for all sorts. Blood sugar was tested, all normal, nothing obvious at all. I have to keep an eye on her and if I spot a seizure, try and remember all sorts of information like length, noises, is she circling, is it always the same side, colour etc. She is back in for a half day on Wednesday to get more tests done and possibly an X ray to see if there is any underlying treatable cause. If not and seizures continue then we will look at controlling them with sedatives, depending. There is still a chance that this is a blip and it will not happen again. Fingers crossed for that! In the meantime Meg sends kisses. IMG_20190809_180240.webp
