Meggie’s recent trip to my local vets last week ended up with her having a bladder scan and a urine sample being sent off to be cultured. I asked them to send the images to Ellie Whitehead, my usual vet and would appreciate any feedback on what she said, which is, “Hi, I have just had chance to look at the images, there is some sludge but also the mucosal lining looks very thickened and in places like it is coming away from the underlying muscularis layer. In Some sever bladder cases I have seen the mucosal bladder lining start to slough away. unfortunately there may be little more we can do than anti-inflammatories and added pain meds +/- antibiotics dependent on culture.

Meggie has had IC for about 2 years and it’s been getting progressively worse. Her regular meds are 0.9ml of Loxicom, 0.2ml Calpol 6+ and 0.2ml Gabapentin, all twice daily. Following last week’s visit, where the front of her abdomen was tender, the local vets prescribed 0.2ml Metaclopramide every 6-8 hours. The urine culture results aren’t back yet, but if I’m understanding what Ellie is saying, I don’t see that antibiotics are going to help. Would really appreciate some support right now; my Meggie is a very special piggy, and although I love her to bits I also don’t want to prolong any suffering.
