I have been giving Lily Meloxidyl on an off since September for her IC. The vet prescribed her 0.4ml once a day (Lily weighs 1.25kg). I'm used to splitting the dosage and giving 0.2ml twice a day, but the vet doesn't think I should do this for more than a few days, as it could affect her kidneys.

When Lily's IC was bad a few weeks ago, the vet said that I can give her 0.4ml of Meloxidyl in the morning and the same dosage in the evening, 12 hours apart. She said I can only do this for 3 days and then go back to giving it once a day. Lily did improve on this and after a couple of days she stopped squeaking when going to the toilet. When Lily got better, I stopped giving her Meloxidyl, but her cystitis came back 10 days later, after she was in season. I started giving Lily 0.2ml of Meloxidyl twice a day again, but it didn't seem to help, so I increased it to 0.4ml twice a day and she has been improving, but I just wondered if it would be okay for me to do this for more than 3 days? I remember reading on here before that people have given Meloxidyl twice a day for long periods and it hasn't caused any problems.

I also give Lily Cystease (2 capsules per day) and she also has a Oxbow Urinary Support tablet every day. Thank you.

You can safely continue on that dosage. Long term use has shown that guinea pig kidneys are much less affected than other species' due to their fast and effective metabolism. High dosage use by piggy savvy vets has accordingly changed over the last couple of years.

I have and have had several piggies of mine on a dose like that for chronic issues (arthritis, IBS etc.)

We have had piggies on high dose metacam in past under guidance of vet with no issues too.
