Adult Guinea Pig
Today I said goodbye to my darling bunny rabbit, Merlin. I was expecting it, as he was old and was starting to slow down, but it is still thoroughly heartbreaking.
I remember coming home from school in 2003 and finding him in the run outside - Mum had been to the rescue centre and brought him home as a surprise for me, it was the best day ever. We didn't know how old he was but the vets guessed around 1, meaning he lived to be around 9 years old...good for a bunny.
He was a cheeky chap, dad to four accidental babies after a sneaky escape act in summer 2004, a real attention seeker, and the most loving bunny I have ever had.
He loved his kale and the occassional digestive biscuit, and used to beg at the cage for his treats every morning. I can smile today knowing that he spent his last days in happiness, he had free run of the garden during the sunny days and loved spending time laying in the sun. Dad fed him some carrot today at around 2pm and he apparently wolfed them down, so I know he was feeling ok today, I found him at 6pm when I got home from work, and I think he just fell asleep. I'm now looking for a rabbit charm for my charm bracelet to remember him.
Good night my gorgeous boy, binky free at the bridge. You'll always be in my heart, my special boy x
