CharlottiesPiggies

Well so far I have had the Guinea pigs for 2 1/2 days. They have finally moved into a run thats for keeps, instead of me shifting them all over the place, its better for them to settle.

They are happy, and are already making good use of the £3 metal hay ball i got them today from ze pet shop, they were buzzing around today, obviously happy about xmas ::)

This may sound like a silly question because I have probably read it wrong but do they live in a run? :D

Is it just my computer or can I not hear any noise on the videos? :( ?

some of them are a bit funny, iv tried converting them so much i guess iv fuddled them up

Merry & Rosie - sorry this is off subject but i just noticed that your avatar picture looks just like my Trinny apart from the ear colour.

Lol ;D ;D

awww yeh that lil wooden house is the kinda thing i wanna get the girls, but i think they are very taken with their cardboard box bodge job, coz both of them can fit in there and ssshnuggle :P

So do they guinea pigs live out side in a run?
Is it fox proof?
Do you have a cage?

they are in a fox-proof shed, with a chicken run on the floor, with bedding etc so they can snuggle

Not sure if I like that setup tbh :-\ Are you planning on getting heating or hutches?

well the shed keeps itself warm, I just had the hutches, the pigs have plenty of hay and bedding and they have eachother, I feel heating defeats the object of them developing their own temperature kind of thing, they are wild animals and guineas use to being outside are use to it.

each to their own

This has confused me...they're not wild animals, the guinea pigs which we own are domesticated and are pets who are not used to (or capable of coping with) extreme temperatures.

They can be wild, but their not you are right they are domesticated pets and they wasn't born in the wild so no, they're not wild, and no you're quite right they wont be able to take the extreme cold because they haven't been brought up in the wild.

my other half says I should play devils advocate.....
At the moment you live with your parents.....
you want to rescue piggies....
Now in 6 months time you may meet the man of your dreams, 3 months later you have fallen madly in love and want to set up home together.....
Now would your mum have the time to take on all the piggies etc?
Piggies are a commitment and just remember boys are girls, piggies are like otters they are not just for Christmas or a whim.

It's really great you want to help, the more the merrier but I stand by what I said to you when you first mentioned it, I know you have had pigs before but you may end up with pigs from a rescue who are sick, you have to be prepared for every possibility. I am still learning and I want a rescue in the near future.

Maybe you helping in a rescue would be beneficial, rather than you taking in more pigs, don't rush it, there's plenty of time. :)
