So today the pet sitter who will be looking after the guinea pigs came to visit.
She comes highly recommended, a friend already uses her for her cats, and I did check her references, but today she came to the house to meet the pigs for the first time.

I was actually a bit worried, as we have decided to keep them on fleece while we are away.
Initially I planned to switch back to Auboise, but fleece has proven so much easier that I decided to run it by her.
She was super interested in the whole set up (C&C's don't seem to exist here yet) and she loved the idea of fleece.
In fact she asked if she could take a few photos and the web site of the supplier, as she knows a couple of people who might be interested. She also asked if she could write about our set up on her Blog!

She was great with the pigs, and Ruby and Lucy rushed right over to say hello.
Eddi held back a bit, but did start begging. She thought this was very cute, and I have given her strict instructions that he is to have no more than 1 blueberry a day.
I swear I saw his little face fall when I told her this.

So it all looks good.
Fingers crossed she manages with the fleece ok, but she did seem very keen and asked lots of intelligent questions.
DD said my instructions were clear (her German is better than mine, so she is in charge of correction and feedback!), so although I am nervous about leaving them for the first time, I also feel like they are in good hands.

Sounds like a marvelous pet sitter, to be honest! So I'm sure you can fully enjoy your holidays without worrying too much (because let's be honest, when having pets you can't really not worry at all!)

It sounds good!

I would recommend to make detailed lists as to what/how much to feed when and write down all the jobs like water bottles etc. that you want have performed at which visit.
I have also left chopped up veg for the first feed or two in the fridge, so the carer can see what and how I am feeding.

For cleaning, leave all the necessary bedding together and if necessary make a little sketch.

All the best!

I'm just back from my 5 day camping trip. My mum (72) was down staying to look after the dogs and pigs. I left them on fleece and she coped ok but did find it hard cleaning into the corners of the bottom cage and my neighbour came in to help her with the fleece change. Next time I think I will use Fitch just to make it easier for her. It was the first time I left them and I was a little worried but I had 9 happy piggies when I got home....even the dogs didn't seem to miss us too much....my mum has them spoilt! Lol x
