hi everyone! Peaches had a nasty fall (daughter accidentally dropped her on concrete when bringing her in from outside run) took her straight to vet as she was limping, crying and had a cut nose. Poor thing and daughter beside her self. Good news she was thoroughly checked out and fine. But vet gave her metacam as she said she might b stiff in a few hours. Do I need to do anything special because she has had metacam? Thanks for your help!

No you don't need to do anything else. Has she been prescribed just once daily or twice daily? Piggies metabolism is quite quick and she may want a dosage twice a day to help keep in it her system

They gave her just one dose, at the vets. By the time I got her there she seemed fine I think they were taking a belt and braces approach. It was an injection. Do u know How long the painkiller lasts? I can take her back to the vets tomorrow if she's not herself. We were only at the vets 30 mins ago.

Please give her the metacam twice daily because of the fast metabolism. If your vet has given you a once daily dosage, split it in half. Metacam is not just a painkiller, but also an anti-inflammatory that should help with the inevitable bruising.

They just gave her one injection and said she should b fine. They didn't give me anything to take away. Will I need to get some more? Will tomorrow b ok if I need to get it? Thanks for your help.

The injection will keep her going til tomorrow. I would ring your vets and enquire about getting some oral metacam to give at home as she will be sore for a few days. I had this with one of my original guinea pigs too, face planted the patio, it was several years ago now and with a few days of pain relief she was fine. She had a break to her tooth under the gum line as well so her tooth came out a few days later and I found it in the cage, it grew back without any problems though. I just mention it as something to watch out for

i would ask the vet if you need oral metacam, your piggie may have bruising and this can be painful .piggies hide there illness/pain well, but a classic sign of pain is grinding teeth, reduced or stop eating/appetite, moving less /sitting in a corner.i think if i had fallen from a block of flats i would be in pain, but accidents do happen ,it is not anyones fault.I hope your piggie feels better soon.:)

Thanks I'll call the vets tomorrow and get her some more. Vet checked her teeth but will keep an eye on them. Thanks for everyone's help really appreciate it.

Thanks for the link on transporting the piggys will insist on a tube delivery now! As we are now regularly moving the piggys inside and outside of the house.

A tube or a cardboard box where you can block the entrance during transport is fine, especially if you cut little hand-holds into the sides.
