I have read on here in other posts that their are some over the counter alternatives to metacam if you cannot get any from the vet. I'm trying to get some clarification on this as my Hazelnut has been showing signs of pain and i am out of metacam. Please help, I'm in the US so the medications people were referring to in the other threads I've read are not found here at least under those names.

The forum doesn't promote the use of over the counter medication. It is always best to see a vet and get the properly prescribed medication from there.

However, in extreme cases, there are safe alternatives you can give until you can see a vet. I have just sent you a PM.

Please see a qualified vet as soon as possible though for a proper diagnosis and treatment.

Please see a vet promptly if your guinea pig is in pain. We do not recommend self-medication, especially with human painkillers for any length of time, as it can be dangerous and does not address any underlying issues that cause the problem in the first place. it can also impinge on any treatment that your vet may want to give when you seen him.

No problem, i understand. If a Admin wants to take this down then I don't know if i can remove.

Do you know why your piggy is in pain? Is it because of an ongoing issue?
