hi,

Does anyone know if Metatone and the gut stimulant Emipred can be given together - obviously not in same syringe at same time but alongside each other?

If you are worried, I would recommend to leave at least an hour in between the two to prevent the two from interacting. I am doing so with my own piggies. I don't think that there is a huge problem though.

I am tagging @helen105281 , @Pebble and @Elwickcavies

I am not 100% sure as I don't think I have ever had a pig on both at the same time. Metatone is just vitamins though so would think it would be ok but if you wanted to safe you could so what Wiebke has suggested and leave an hour in between doses.

If I consult my vet ref one of my pigs.....and they has prescribed me Emeprid - I would ALSO be discussing with them about giving over-the-counter meds such as metatone before giving it.. I do NOT give anything to my piggies (even if non-prescription) without the authorisation and say-so of my vets....esepcially to piggies already on prescribed mediction.

. I am lucky as my vets are 24hrs, have a good relationship with me, so will authorise me giving meds at any time of the day or night if they think it appropriate
I realise other Slaves aren't so blessed with such a good vets practice.

I would agree with the advice given. It's probably fine, but if in doubt leave an hour between.

hi all,

thank you for advice - the vet did say she was happy for me to give both but have been allowing an hour between each.
Shes gaining weight slowly but surely already. Just need her to gain enough to be able to get her proper work done on molars as this wasnt done by rescue as claimed - not properly anyway.....long story! :(
She is literally a little piggie now she seems to have found her apetite, i just need to try and get her to eat more hay.

I hope she now recovers. But it sounds like she may have other issues going on for the that you haven't felt able to post about yet.
Re her molar work - can you please post your location and whether in the UK or USA

If you are in the UK then Simon Maddock at Cat and Rabbit Clinic in Northampton can do conscious dentals on molars and is the best guinea dental vet in the UK. There are many volunteers around the country who will help transport piggies to Northampton for Simon's attention.

I realise you may not want to say anything more publicly so if you are happy to PM me then please do so.
(NB But as you are a new poster, I will need to contact you first to enable you to use the PM system)
