Daisy has been diagnosed with this and I wondered if anyone had any experience of it that they could share. Thanks.

Hi

The middle ear is a hollow but totally closed capsule of bone, which makes it somewhat more difficult to treat and to reach with antibiotics. But if caught early there is a good chance.
Middle ear infection is actually not at all common. We see perhaps one or two cases in a year in the UK.

Please note I am NOT saying that your piggy has got CBS syndrome where the bulla (the bony capsule) eventually becomes calcified because of an initially un- or undertreated respiratory infection that has had time to get embedded in the bulla long before it is discovered and treated.
This specific type has been making the rounds in the USA and Canada due to significantly sub-standard mass breeding and practices in continent-wide chain petshops as a result of much lower regulation of trading standards, where a significant percentage of all sold piggies were actually ill or already infected in recent recent years.

I am bringing this up because it is inevitably going to be thrown into the round sooner or later. I want you to be aware of it but I want to make clear that there are some differences, depending on how soon the infection is picked up and how embedded it already is.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that your Daisy is going to respond well to her meds. What antibiotic and dosage is she on?

The vets were expecting cbs but thankfully it wasn’t.

Unfortunately her neurological symptoms were due to her liver but she’s on treatment now and thankfully doing very well so far :)
