Midge&Panda
Adult Guinea Pig
It is with much sadness that I have to write that Midge (avatar) left for the bridge this evening. She had been unwell for some time - bladder problems but that had been controlled with medication and she did ok with it. More recently though she was unable to maintain weight and despite x-rays and examinations no definitive cause could be found. 2 weeks ago during another exam it was noted that she had swollen lymph glands and the diagnosis was sketchy, just keep an eye on her. Unfortunately today though she started to squeak when pooping so an emergency trip to the vets and during the exam she passed a huge amount of blood stained wee. We decided her quality of life was being compromised and so made that awful decision. When Midge had left us the vet had a proper examination and discovered a large lump/tumour in the bladder area and her conclusion was that she had had the tumour first and the swollen lymph glands were secondary. She did explain as well even with the most detailed x-ray lumps can be missed.
Midge, you came into our lives at 6 weeks old and buried yourself into our hearts. You were bold and brave and the leader of the gang. Woe betide any piggy that forgot that. First to the door when the grass was picked and last in the cage when it was time for bed. At peace now with Panda. Popcorn free at the bridge darling Midge. We will miss your cheeky little nibbles and your very loud wheek. xxxxx
