Adult Guinea Pig
I am sad to report that we lost Midnight on the last day of our holiday last week. After checking the Gurney bibles she had a massive stroke, and although we tried to keep her hydrated she passed away very quickly, snuggled in her fleece.
Midnight came to us from Pets@home at the end of Jan and was always a quiet timid piggy. Kept to herself most of the time unless she could snuggle Moon (who we lost at Easter). She always seemed a sickly piggy although our vet said he couldnt find anything wrong with her.
She had her moments having mad sprints around the living room but always preferred dark places and corners. She had a habit of lying in her own poo despite the many attempts to keep her clean. After many weeks she had started to speak up for herself with squeeks but it had been a long time coming. She never really got to grips with grass and we never saw her eat any when out on the grass with the others, although she loved her dandelion leaves.
In reflection we hope we gave her a happy few months of life as we feel if we hadnt she would have ended up in the back rooms of Pets@home.
We have buried her in a large terracotta pot along with a rose. The decision has been made that we shall do this for the others we have lost this year so at somepoint I shall be exhuming and reburying. (I am glad we used non-degradeable containers).
At some point this year we shall therefore have a patio memorial rose garden.
So Goodnight Midnight we will miss you although we had you such a short time.
