And so far, so good! He's had the op where they go in via the abdomen and it's a neat little bit of stitching he has. He was eating himself as soon as he got home.

We put a cage divider in last night as mike was slightly subdued and the instructions from the vet said no exercise for 24 hrs - didn't want benson chasing him all over!

I was worried when benson started chewing at the cage divider, seemingly desperate to get to mike. I wasn't sure if it was friendly or aggresion as he doesn't normally chew the bars at all and this was quite frantic. A huge heap of reddigrass put a stop to that!

This morning mike seems very well, very active and eating and chatty. I re introduced them on neutral territory and all was well. Back in the cage, benson did a little popcorn so i think he is glad to be back together with his cagemate.

No problems so far. Fingers crossed he continues well. He goes back to the vet in a week for follow up.

Great news!
You may find our post-op care guide helpful, as it tells you what to look out for. With neutered boars, please contact your vet as soon as you notice any swellings in the groin are. These typically happen in the first few weeks after the op, but can make an appearance as late 6 months post-op. the same goes for any sudden loss of appetite. Check you boy daily. thankfully, the majority of neutered boars are having a trouble-free recovery.

Thanks! Yes, i have had a read of the post op info, really useful. I haven't much experience at all with looking after poorly pigs so I'm fingers crossed he continues well.

I have got plenty of critical care left from when stan was ill (and sadly passed) and am fairly confident about syringe feeding but not abcess care. It's all looking good just now but it's reassuring to have this forum in case things change. Also the vet is a recommended one from this forum and is about 40 mins drive, not too bad at all.

Just an update on mike - his wound healed up fine and is completely closed now - he's had his post op check and doesn't need to go back again. All looking great, mike was in great shape right through his recovery and has never looked back :yahoo:

Great news... x

Was it Inglis or Apex vets that performed Mike's Op... ?

Lisa & Ali.. x

Shows the benefits of going to a good vet!

Hi @VickiA and @LisaAli and @pig in the city - it was glen at apex vets that did the op and what a neat job he did! I don't know the name of the technique he used but he went in via the abdomen which left a small neat line of dissolvable sutures and, as he is on fleece, i am thinking less chance of infection with his belly being off the ground!

I'm not getting any more pigs til benson passes (un neutered and 4 yrs old) but when that day comes then i hope to put mike with a couple of girls. Benson seems in fine fettle just now so hopefully will be a year or two at least.

Thanks for everyone's good wishes for mike on this thread!
