Cilantro, parsley, green bell pepper, red bell pepper, and baby lettuce. Now orange. They like these Meadowlands dandelion and rosehip loops I've got, we tried sprinkling the loops on the veg, and ever putting some bell pepper and orange juice on them. They would not eat them anymore :c The loops aren't meant to be more than an occasional treat. I'm beginning to worry about their vitamin C levels. Their pellets have about 400mg/kg of vitamin C, but I think it has to be closer to 700 to be enough, right?

As for liners... we'll just have to see I guess. Overnight vs a few hours is pretty different xD

Yeah, Kenai is a very brave and curious piggy! Mostly just curious though, new situations don't seem to bother him as much because he always wants to explore. Koda is just a bit shier, I haven't seen too much of a personality on him yet besides shy and a tad bit grumpy. With time, though!

It'll be good to book a health check for them. My boar was a honey but long term grumpy and I think he had dental problems for a long time before I realised. I'm sure Koda is just sizing up his huge new home though!

Yeah, I've been wanting to get them into a vet but I'm in quarantine :c I don't want to not be there for their first ever vet check. If something serious were to happen I would go no matter what, quarantine be damned, but hopefully soon.

Koda rumbles a lot, thus the grumpy. Best I can tell, he also likes to pout. Rumbling can mean a lot, but I think most of it is pointed toward either Kenai or Me.

He is! I just wish they'd eat some darn vegetables.

I'll make a few more videos as time goes by. I'll try to get one with both of them. Tomorrow afternoon I'm going to do the first full cage clean on my own. I'll see about videos of them running around in their pen.

I'm in the middle of their major cage clean right now, all the stuff is in the dryer. Lots and lots of hay scraps... lots and lots of hay scraps.

The boys are having fun in their playpen. It technically has more square footage than their cage, so they're pretty happy to be running around in it. Eating lots of hay.

A major success though! I got them to eat parsley! It took some fanagling; I had my SO hold Kenai and I imitated a piggy bath for friendship. Then, I ate parsley in front of his face, while we held a piece for him. Surprisingly, it worked ._. He ate!

Then part two: get Koda to eat some. I put parsley(and cilantro too, although neither of them will eat it. They turn their noses up at it!) In their playpen with them, and lo and behold:




I've got some videos too, below this. Tomorrow I'll update how long it took them to dry, but they can stay in their playpen as long as needed.

Yes, uh... about 8 weeks? I dont have the info on me, I'm in bed right now.

It went well! Everything dried in an hour and a half. The boys were popcorning around and enjoying their new digs!

I weighed them again, since it's been a week. They've gained about 12-15g a day each ^-^ I'm glad they're eating well, and that their heft is doing okay. Koda is much larger than Kenai.

I gave a quick nail trim a whack, and it went well. All their claws are white and still kinda clear. I had to give Koda a bum bath. He's going to need a trim here soon, but I don't think he'd hold still at all. His belly fur was stained yellow and wet with gunk, and his undershirt, however gorgeous, is getting tangled too. I'm hopeful though, he's slowly getting more used to me. Kenai is helping I think.

Aw it's going really well. When my son was young I had little scissors with blunt ends, maybe they'd feel safer for wriggly pig hair cuts.

Update for the day!

The boys are both getting more used to me. Koda, though still much shier than Kenai, will now eat from my hand and sit in my lap. They both like to run around, they're very curious, although only Kenai likes to zoom. Every day I'm seeing just a little bit more of their personalities come out.

My piggy garden is growing well! The seeds I germinated are starting to sprout. When I change the boy's water bottles, I use the leftover water to water the seedlings. It's a small piggy garden, with cat grass, green beans, cilantro, a little bit of lettuce, and basil. We'll see what sprouts.

Mostly just dumping some pigtures! It's been some time. The boys will not eat cilantro! Well... sorta. Maybe. Kenai will munch it, then Koda will steal, but they aren't good at going at it on their own. I got a couple nibbles of spinach/baby red chard, but nothing else. Still no nibbles even on bell peppers, any kind of lettuce, or any wet veg. I'll be trying to introduce a few blades of cat grass from the piggy terrarium here soon.

Gauging how much they're supposed to be getting is a little difficult due to the limited variety right now unfortunately...

Thank you! They're growing quite well.

They've received a cage redoing. I took out their hay box, as they didn't seem to enjoy it much, and only ever ate off the sides. I almost never found evidence of them going inside. After I removed the hay racks, they went ZOOMING. I've got a video for those who want to see, they absolutely loved the space!

In the spirit of keeping this new space for them, since they seemed to enjoy it so much, I put in new DIY hay racks. That way I could still offer them copious amount of orchard hay too. It holds nearly as much as my hay box did, which I'm pretty happy about.



The stinkers can fit through the holes in my hay bag. And then squeak because they're "stuck", and ruin the hay by peeing on it. Sigh... what dorks.

They're both very quiet though. Kenai is more vocal than Koda, but Koda rumbles a lot more, despite being a major major scaredy cat. Koda is... unfortunately, not very good at telling my fingers/a treat from veggies. It's startling to feel teeth, but he isn't biting or nipping, so I'm not too worried about it. I guess I just smell good.

They still wont eat anything other than parsley or cilantro. I've been trying though. They're gaining weight at a good rate(I think?)

I have tried lettuce, and fresh cat grass too. They took maybe a nibble of spinach/baby chard. That's about it.

And yeah, I'm still trying to get on a consistent schedule for weighing xD It's hard to resist checking up on them.

Yes, both! And cucumbers, and arugula, and carrots, and green and red bell peppers(which they ate before!), and green beans! They stubbornly snub their noses at everything I've tried!

I just want them to eat their veggies, naughty piggies. I've eaten so many salads out of nearly rotten vegetables at this point.

The ONLY other thing I've seen them eat is a dandelion and rose hip mixed treat that I give them when grooming them, so about once a week. They adore that thing, ate it immediately even the first day I got them. They aren't keen on anything else in my herb mix though.

They favour the oat hay when it's brand new and has oats in it, and usually switch to the orchard at night/after all the oat tops are gone. They'll also eat seagrass twists, apple stick outsides, seagrass/hyacinth(?) balls, oat sticks/twists, meadow sticks/twists, cat tail sticks, and maize sticks/twists. They really like the maize. Neither of them seem to be the most avid of chewers, but they do like to eat. Cardboard doesn't interest them at all, and I haven't seen or heard them biting the chloroplast or the bars.

We're outside in the covered patio/sun room today. The basement is being sprayed, so they're in the tent buried under a pile of hay. It's their first time spending a day outdoors even if we're not really "outdoors"(the "room" is outside, but it has walls and large screen windows on all sides+a roof and door), so they're a little scared.

They're totally covered in hay though, and I'm worried about specks getting in their eyes. Suggestions for if this occurs?

It's cage cleaning day once again and the boys finally have another liner(sorta!). I got a 2x5 in a mix up ordering cuddle cups, and was allowed to keep it due to the mess of the pandemic right now and difficulty in shipping it back. With some towels thrown in, it looks nice! I really like the bees, I think they're cute, and it makes my life a lot easier.

They got a bunch of new chews today, after going through all their twists and fidgets. I even managed to find a grass hut with two entrances! I'm pretty happy, they don't seem to enjoy going INTO things very much. Only on top.

I'm having difficulties telling who's dominant. Kenai seems to be the one who's always trying to get on top of Koda, but Koda rumbles all the time at him and absolutely refuses to submit. I haven't heard the submission squeal(and believe me, I spend a lot of time down here with them). They hop around a lot by each other, and often eat and sleep together too. I haven't noticed anything like lunging, chasing, or even pushing each other's heads up. I'm handling Kenai first right now, but I am concerned that I don't have the right one, which is why Koda is rumbling all the time and won't submit.

I have heard Kenai wheek twice! My S.O. is convinced it's a distress call, but Kenai has only done it (so far) after I put fresh water in. They REALLY like their water.

Still no luck on vegetables other than cilantro or parsley as well. It's only just been a month now though, so I'm hoping it's just them settling in still. Nonetheless, it's frustrating, because I know they were eating lettuce and peppers with their previous parents. I guess they just dont trust me yet still, or maybe they only want it prepared in a certain way. I'm just not sure.

Anyways, have some pictures! It's pretty barren right now, but later this evening I'll get their cuddle cups, tunnel, etc. back in there.

Another update on the boys!

We brought them up to meet my Great Grandma, so I got a few really nice pictures of them! With a good amount of cilantro as bait though, of course. They're still growing well, and starting to get more comfortable making noise around me. They're still so quiet though, and do make much noise when they're together.

I recently updated their loft with bath mats, as seen in the guinea pig DIY thread, and they're so nice! Having things on the walls decreases the amount of pee that they always managed to get right into the cracks, and these two boys are a fan of spraying pee for sure, so it's a bit less work for me!

They're now getting a main liner change every 3-4 days. I try to mix it up every time I change! Right now, their fleece forest is actually all tied up around one grid like party streamers, just for something different. And where the big forest was, theres a big grass hut now.

They still won't try variety vegetables, but they do enjoy herbs in small quantities. And pea flakes too, fortunately.
