I'm ringing the vet for an appointment next Saturday morning but I'd like to know if anyone has EXPERIENCED milky eyes on their pigs.

I've had NO health problems since July last year and it's been such a well needed break. Everyone is still healthy but then I noticed Zuki, my newest pig, adopted to pair with Zambi started being so skittish he was attacking me when I got close to him and screeching, even when I try to put a towel over him, he flinches whenever I approch his right side (when facing him)

I noticed the top of his eye is going a very slight milky colour, just the top bit right now, the other eye (altho he has a lump which hes always had) is completely black with a rasied edge wich I think is a piece of skin they have under the eyelid, the other side has the same but seems more visable because of the whitest colour to the top of the eye.

Is he going blind? Does anyone know if this is caused by anything?

I dont know much about eyes, but here is a link showing differnt eye conditions maybe have a look see if yiu see anything, there was another post not that long ago about white dots in eyes, I rember the pictures and it was quite serious the same pictures are listed under the Osseous Metaplasia highlighted section. here is the link and have a look http://www.guinealynx.info/eyes.html if it does look anything like that I would book a vet appointment sooner, as that is quite serious.

This sounds like an ulcer. It could have some hay trapped inside. He is in a lot of pain and needs to see a vet right away.

next saturday is a long time to wait, they go downhill so quickly, please have him seen much sooner.

I'm honestly not too worried. I have had pigs for a long time now and if they're going to go, they go, no matter how fast I rush them to the vets, no matter how much money I fork out. Every pig thats died has had at least £150 spent on them and it's done nothing.

I can not possibly get to a vets until Friday at the latest and thats even pushing it. My boyfriend works 9-5, I work 12pm-1am... I don't drive, the last time my two boars went on the bus (2 hours to vets) they got so unhappy with the travelling, they fell out and I had to rebond them. I won't be putting them through that again. My vet is so far away simply because I have been to EVERY vet in my town and they aren't good. I need a vet I can trust and I found a pleasent women who even helps with vet bills by viewing both animals as one consultant.

I have looked at the link, Thank you for posting it. I will have a look but after skimming, it seems more like an irratation possible from the new bedding we have put in. He's in no pain, he's always been a screamer when you try and catch him, or when Zambi mounts him. He's still as loud as usual, eats, drinks, runs about, begs, is the first pig hanging off the side of his cage asking for veg. It's just his eye that seems changed slightly.

I'll update what the vet says asap.

Injury
A single watery or cloudy eye may be the result of an injury. Abrasions, cuts, or punctures of the eye can result from accident, hay pokes, or fighting. Examine the eye closely, especially around the rims. Sometimes a bit of hay will work itself up behind the eye and if it's partially visible can be pulled out by tweezers. If the eye shows signs of abrasion or clouds over in any way, or looks red in the white area, or seems to be swollen or sinking or squinting - get your guinea pig to an experienced veterinarian.
TREAT EYE INJURIES PROMPTLY TO PREVENT EYE LOSS.

That seems the most likely opition, so I'm goign to examine his eye carefully and see if I can see anything then explain it to the vet and see what she says. If she wants me to bring the pig in sooner, then I'll find a way :)

Appointment 10:20am. It's with a vet I don't know but will have to try him as other two are off. He's getting easier to catch. I've pressed around his eye and no reaction at all.
I shined a light in his eye and no white so his actual eye seems ok atm. Aww hes silly!

Hope all goes well at vets

Well today it's gone, nothing on the eye at all! Going to take him vets anyways just incase but yeah, no white film or redness. I caught him with hands today as well.

2nd day and he let me pick him up with no fuss, and his eye is completely black, minus the normal white bits... I rang the vet to ask for opinions on what to do and they don't feel he needs to visit the vets now. I have rang my rodentologist and left a message as I haven't been able to get through. Silly ZUKI!
