Hi,
I know that I haven't posted in a while sorry for that.. :btt:
For one of the guinea pigs in my house certain foods like apples seem to make his eyes milky and I was just wondering if anyone knew what that is?
I thought I saw something about it on the forum before but ignored it because it wasn't happening to my pigs.

Would it be caused by too much sugar or calcium? Should I have any concerns about his health?

All advice welcome and thank you again!

Hi!

Guinea pig eye cleaning fluid looks milky; clear watery fluid is in fact a sign of an irritation or injury.
Any eye that has a white, slightly bluish dot or film on the surface is ulcerating (most likely after a hay pooke) and needs to see a vet asap.
White inside the eye is usually a cataract.

As far as I am aware there is not usually a connection between food and increased eye cleaning fluid.

Please do not overfeed fruit; any fruit and tomato should never be more than an occasional treat in a small quantity.
