My girls are almost 4 months old. They are both putting on weight, get lots of exercise and cuddles. They talk to me all day long and overall seem very happy. My little Rea was sleeping all afternoon 2 days ago and I noticed her eyes had a milky colored goop around the rims. Both eyes cleared within minutes of her waking up. I cleaned their cage and cuddle sacks immediately (they were due the next day anyway). After that Rea seems perfect until this afternoon. She was antsy in her sack and when I opened it, she was goopy again. However as before, she cleared right up. Should I be concerned for an eye infection or is this considered "sleep" in her eyes like we get in the morning? Our other little girl Lea, has had no issues so far. I would appreciate any advice anyone is willing to give. Thank you!

:agr:

It freaked my mum out when she first saw it, she was ready to take Cissy up the vet before I could explain to her that it's natural body wash for them!

Don't panic, she's just been having a wash :)

Yes, just cleaning fluid. Scary when you first see it when it doesn't clear away.

The white fluid is normal eye cleaning fluid, as guinea pigs don't blink like we humans do.

You can find more information on what is normal and what not in this guide here:

Here is our new owners' information bundle, which you may find very helpful and interesting in learning about your guinea pigs; including a little lesson in guinea pig whispering.
