? Last week i sent i a post about my guinea pigs molly milly and maisy and unfortunatly milly has got worse. Her eye problem has got worse and her eye has turned blue we tryid treating it but we were unsure about what was causing the problem. she has also lost weight again she was 620g and is now 580g and at her age ( adult of 4 1/2 years)
We have tried taking her out of the cage a feeding her separately to make sure that she is eating and that that would work but it has not .

thanks

A worried owner

Hey there Alex, well it really sounds like you need to see a piggie savvy vet love O0
Your trouble now will be if she's separated that might stress her too :'( :'(
I hope that Mary who's got the expertise will be on soon O0 but we've also got other experienced piggy owners who should be able to help you :smitten: :smitten:
Healing wheeks for your little Milly :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: and gosh your Molly and Milly sound beautiful as well :smitten: :smitten:

Hi Alex,

I would go to the vet, as you are unsure of the root cause of the eye problem. I would syringe feed her pellets or Critical care if you have any. I've no experience with eye problems but hopefully someone can advise you soon.

Thanks for your reply's

just to let you know that milly is eating but just not putting on any weight. The main thing i am concerned about is her eye as i would hate to see her unhappy.
I did say to my mum that the sooner the better we take her to the vets.

Any recommended vets would be appreciated.

thanks in advance.

I live in North London and I have to say that I have struggled to find a good vet round here. I travelled to Surrey to see the vet yesterday!
Whereabouts are you exactly?

If the eye is blue(oqaque) this is a sign of healing. The opaque will disapear when the eye is healed.

The weight loss could be a number of things,

have you checked her skin for mites?

is she drinking more(could be a renal problem)

have you checked her teeth(sometimes a sore in the mouth will hinder eating.so they will eat less()

The vet Laure mentioned is a gp expert and if you could get to her,the journey would be worth it.

If you want contact details of the surgery pm me or Laure.

Thankyou

I cant say how much i appreciate your comments. I will keep a close eye on our milly and watch her condition. If she doesnt seem to be getting better then i will take her to the vets and get a second opinion.

I live just 2 min away from the town center.

I have read through old reviews on this site and one that stands out is

Gatehouse veterinary surgery
Baldock
Hertfordshire
sg7 6ng
01462 895112

people said that they cant rate it high enough but i havent spoken to anyone who has been there so i thought i would try it out and i will tell you the results.

For the lady who lives in enfield.

I used AA route planner to see how far and how long the journey will take just under 1 hour and is around 33 miles

Thanks.

zoe would get a lot of eye probles usually cause she would tunnel under the meadow hay and gets lots of grass seeds in her eyes. as for the weight problem has milly been on any antibiotics? is she dribbling when eating? is she weeing and pooping normally? hoping she gets better soon. sending hugs and prayers to you, milly and molly . hertfordshire always reminds me of pride and prejudice from jane austen, we in south australia also have a suburb called enfield. good luck with milly. :smitten: :smitten:

Hi

yh as far as i know she is drinking and eating as normal and weeing and pooping fine . When i first had my old pigs one of them had hay in the connor of her eye and the rspca man pulled it out and afetr it went blue then a few days later it was fine.

as for the weight i will monitor it over the week and i no brown bread aint all that good for them but I'm sure a little a week wont hurt. if you think otherwise please let me no.

thanks

Aw I hope Milly gets better soon. I don't know about bread, there are a lot of additives in some of it, but if you are looking for something to get her eating have you got access to grass? Its helped when mine have been poorly. :)
Good luck!

I'd be looking at extra hay and pellets, even if you have to make some mushy (with pre boiled and cooled down water) and feed this to her. Also another wonderful item is metatone :)
Come on little Milly eat up and put some weight on little one :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Hi

I didnt think about grass yh i have a whole back garden of it. I do a massive hand built run for them but latly the weather hasnt been suitable so... i think i will have to get the sissors out

thanks

how is milly going? really hoping she is improving and is on the road to recovery. when zoe was sick and not eating, we would feed her baby food via syringe like corn or carrot puree. this was after her surgery actually, it was quite funny, she loved it and ate it happily. after a little sleep she wouldn't have a bar of it and kept pushing it away and she ate on her own. so try the baby food or mushed up pellets and syringe water with vitamin C in it as well to keep her fluids up. sending hugs and cuddles to you and milly. hoping she gets better real soon. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

hi

Milly is slowly getting better in both ways. Her eye is much better and is know back to its normal colour. Now that the eye is more clear i think you i can see what the cause was, a small scratch the the surface of her eye may have been caused by her cleaning herself and she caught it with her nail or a bit of hay. Her wieght has increased aswell slowly but surely.

thanks for all of your help and advice. I will give you another update soon

Alex, Milly, Molly and Maisy
