Milly's Bumblefoot Again!

I am sure many of you know that I adopted Milly and Molly from the RSPCA at Walsall back in November. Milly was handed into their care with a severe case of Bumblefoot, it eased and then I adopted her.

However, within a week or two of rehoming her, the problem flared up again. She was on Baytril continuously for a month. It eased again, but never completely went away.
I bathe her foot regularly to keep it clean and put a spray of Savlon antiseptic fluid on it to coat it and keep infection away. She is housed on Megazorb.

Today, however, out of the blue she wouldn't come out of her bedroom and then when she did, she was limping badly. Her foot had swollen overnight.

I have a vet's appointment at 6.20 pm ... fingers crossed for her please.
She always gets so upset when I look at her foot, even if I don't touch it, her body twitches.

She is a very precious girl to me and I hate her having this problem flaring up for time to time :(:(:(
 
I am so sorry about that - especially as it is mostly caused by neglect! Poor Milly!

Give her a good cuddle from me with my best wishes that this flare-up will subside properly.

Gorgeous Guineas do a Happy Soles ointment for bumblefoot. It proved useful when I went on the trial back in '08, very effective with the scabs and swelling. How did you get on at the vets?
 
Thanks everyone. Milly was dragging her foot behind her yesterday and I haven't seen her that bad before!
It had flared up really quickly. As I said it has never healed 100% but normally it doesn't worry her (it worries me though!)

Anyway, Milly got on ok at the vets .. she was as good as gold. She didn't murmur or moan even when the vet was cleaning her foot up and having a look at it.

Another month of Baytril at 0.4ml once per day. I will be using Bio Lapis to help her tummy.

Alcesterpigs ... above is the original thread on Milly and Molly. The photos that I fell in love with! x)

We can only assume that was through neglect that Milly got so bad previously. Her Bumblefoot was severe, she was very underweight plus her foster carer said Milly had very little hair on her head.

Give Milly a cuddle from me today! I send my best wishes that you can get her bumblefoot under control soon! At least she's having the best care and all the love possible now.

It always makes me angry, when guinea pigs suffer (or even die from!) the aftereffects of what clearly must have been regular neglect.
Bumblefoot should never get THAT bad, if it was treated promptly and the bacteria were not given a chance to take hold.

Awwwww poor Milly :( I do hope it gets better soon. My Poppy had Bumble foot when I got her from a rescue in November, I can tell you though her foot has reduced in the size it was and hardly has any signs of swelling that was there which was really quite bad. I think it is from being on vet bed in the run and the bedroom which I change every day for clean vet bed which has helped massively and also the gorgeous guineas foot ointment which is amazing.
Poor Milly sounds much worse than Poppy's ever was, but I wonder whether you have considered having her on vet bed it might help aswell as the antibiotics :) xxxxx
 
I hope Milly's feet are better soon. I had a sow who had bumblefoot and her pad became ulcerated. It's so frustrating. My thoughts are with you :)
 
The improvement in Milly's foot has been huge! :):):)

I am so pleased! She is on 0.4ml of Baytril once per day and that has been far more effective than 0.2ml twice a day. I haven't seen her foot looking that good for months.

I am still spraying a protective layer of Savlon wound antiseptic on it once a day ... but I am delighted with the improvement in just a couple of days.

Fingers crossed things continue to improve. Milly is just such a lovely little piggy xx
 
glad to hear her foot is looking better, one thing that nay be handy to have in is some Daktarian(sp?) foot spray for althetes foot as its really soothing for bumble foot and works wunders on mild cases, just wundering if this would be good as a "stand by" incase you coulnt get the vets untill the next day or later(as it would help sooth the foot hugly tillyou got her to the vets) or if she did just get a mild dose of bumble, just an idea
 
Milly has a bit of an upset tummy today which I guess is to be expected.

Hopefully the Bio Lapis will help.
